I will probably end up buying some of that stuff that makes kids stop sucking their thumbs, but I am cheap so it will take me a while to get around to it. Peppers or capsaicin won't work, because I itch my eyes sometimes and prefer to not be in agonizing pain.
You don't need to buy that to stop.

The trick is to engage in a competing behavior. A competing behavior is a behavior you engage in that will not allow you to simultaneously engage in your target behavior (nail biting).

2 Suggestions:

-Wear thin gloves...not like ski gloves but any kind of glove you could tolerate to have on extensively until the habit goes away, or;

-Get someone to fidget with. Get anything...eraser, coin, pencil, fidget ring, pen...anything to keep your hands busy.

This is pretty much pulled straight out of my Behavior Modification class.
