Default I need to gripe. Sorry bitches.

But I think I've given some decent advice here so I'm asking for some PS myself. Feel free to flame me.

Recently my ex-boyfriend (lol lance bass) posted on my wall (lol facebook) to see how I was doing. So I went to his page to tell him I'm doin' fine. (don't worry, this is not a post about him) I saw that his current girlfriend posted shit alllll over his wall saying things like, "omg ur going 2 b here in 3 hours omg i miss yyyyyyyyooooooooouuuu i looooovvvveee eyooooouuu sososososos much omfg omg wtf" and whatnot. They've been dating for, oh, say, six months and they're already throwing around the L word. (lol tv show)

A question arises. Do guys actually like crap like that? I hear so much bullshit from my guy friends about all the stupid things their girlfriends do, and apparently over-smothering is right there at the top. Honestly, seeing shit like that on facebook, or in life, just makes me sick to my stomach. Why the fuck are people so reliant on relationships these days? Like there's some sort of relationship-comes-first mindset that everyone seems to have tapped into.

Like why the fuck do I see all these kissing pictures on facebook? What's with all the PDA? I get it. You're with someone. Good for you? Not only are people so dependent on relationships, when they DO get with someone, it's gotta be splayed all over the fucking internet.

And then there's people like me, whose first priority is not finding a boyfriend, but bettering myself and starting my own business. And I'M looked upon as the weird one because I'm currently single. People my age are settling down and getting engaged and married and shooting out kids and what not; I just wanna hold up a big red sign that says "SLOW DOWN FUCKERS."

The way I see it, life has cycles of 7 years. The 21-28 bracket is the time where you're really solidifying yourself and finding out what you wanna do with the rest of your life. If you're getting committed to someone else in that time frame, where's the "you-time?"

I don't understand it all. Maybe I'm just having feelings of moral superiority, even though I know it's different strokes for different folks. I really do know that. I know plenty of people in relationships that are awesome and don't find it necessary to flaunt that or think they're better than me. But on the other hand there's tons of people I know that are just the opposite of that

Maybe I'm sick of hearing all the bullshit relationship drama I hear on a regular basis. Maybe I'm just bitter about my generation's view on relationships.

I don't know what kind of advice you can give me, I don't know if you even read all of my ranting and bitching, I don't even know if this post made whole lot of sequential sense but it does feel kinda good to vent every so often you know.

tl;dr version why can't everyone just shut the fuck up every so often

I cannot stand it when any of these social networking site profiles say things like:

"CHUCKIE IS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE. HE IS MY SPECIAL PRINCE AND HE COMPLETES ME. I WILL NEVER ABANDON HIM AND HE WILL ALWAYS BE AT MY SIDE BECAUSE I LUV HIM 4 EVAR."

    PANDAS
If you don't like them, then get the fuck out.

liking that shit varies from guy to guy, like everything (duh). but most don't. it's a good bet that a guy wouldn't -- as it's a good bet a girl wouldn't. but, man, some honeymoon periods last a long time, and some couples just enjoy that shit.

it's stupid and immature and if a girl did that she had better be ironic otherwise i would be off of that shit no matter how much i was into her before.

as for the other thing, i don't think that a "relationship culture" has really developed in this generation. i mean it exists, but it's not reigning supreme. i mean if you think it's bad now imagine living fifty years ago? things are getting better, just, slowly, and incrementally. it's great that you're focusing on yourself and your dreams. but these things aren't always mutually exclusive. it's one of my highest priorities right now -- not a super long term this is my entire future relationship, but, you know. maybe that's only because i'm stupidly lonely as all i've had since my last (and only) relationship almost three years ago has been a few one night stands, which don't really do much for me.

i've forgotten where i was going with this.

i think the money question is why do you let it bother you

to relate, i often find myself going from feeling completely frustrating and angry irl to feeling amazingly strong headed when i'm able to take something that would normally irritate the shit out of me and smile about it. i think you could benefit from this practice assuming you're upset about things as trivial as this thread's subject

A lot of us love it (though don't admit it) when we're in a relationship, it can provide a sense of security or validation. That's basically the reason girls do it in the first place. They're looking for reciprocity so they can get that same feeling. Every guy hates the idea of it when we're not in a relationship though.

This relationship-comes-first mindset comes because people are inherently lonely. People want relationships because it gives them a self-esteem boost. It's the same reason obnoxious douchebags try and bang as many girls as possible and it's the same reason sluts let them.

What's the point in being in a relationship like this if you can't 'brag' about it. Facebook just delivers an easier way to do that.

I'm in the same boat, really. I don't want a relationship right now but I'm looked down upon as I'm somehow less of a person because I don' want to spend all my time (and money) on someone who'll spend half her time annoying the hell out of me anyway.

But hey, at least you know your own POV on the subject and can justify it. Fuck what your friends think and instead of letting annoying cunts anger you, pity them instead. It's all they deserve.

Well, your correct about the needy behavior giving and/or seeking validation, but you're wrong about guys try to bang as many girls as possible. While the girls are generally looking for validation due to deep-seated self-esteem issues (if I sleep with him, it proves to me that I'm pretty), I would say guys are generally more into the control aspect of getting a girl to do something she isn't "supposed" to do.

Really, this behavior is no more egocentric than that of the majority of entrepreneurs, except with varying degree of difficulty and effect.

It's the attitude of superiority that annoys people, not your choice of relationship status.

Gina I generally agree with you. I think that relationships in your teens and twenties are valuable networking opportunities but the only reason they should become endgames is if you break up, stay in touch, and get back together when you're thirty.

(When I say "valuable networking opportunities" I mean it is a good time to meet their dads.)

It's always comforting to know that I'm not the only one that feels that way. (I knew that already, but being an only child can isolate you a bit.)

If you haven't noticed by now, the internet and cell phones and THREEGEE have made us pathetic; but really it's our generation, our sense of entitlement and self centered thinking. For some reason, we get satisfaction out of status updates. I like the OP though, not really what I was expecting.

Oh really, Absolution, is that what it is? Thank God you were here to tell us otherwise we might have gone around for 6 whole minutes before some other dumbfuck tried to make gross overarching generalizations based on amateur sociology.
