I knew this was coming when I quit in 2007 after they fired 3400 of the higher paid workers, luckily I was behind the tech bench, so it didn't apply to me.
Actually, the particular liquidation firms that Circuit City has been using has thus far had a tendency to raise prices.
Eventually there will be a golden time when good things are still available and prices are low, but it'll be tough to catch and will vary from location to location.
Circuit City has been dead to me for the past five years. I won't miss it.
i always shopped at best buy lol
So do I. One less than a mile from my apartment, the other on the other side of town, 12 miles away. Not much wasted even if I don't score.
I went by the one at Mall of Louisiana yesterday. It was a wasted trip, no liquidation had started yet. When I first got down here, I stopped by the store near Cortana Mall, the prices weren't outstanding despite the store closing sale and everything I was looking for was gone. Plenty of Guitar Hero games, though.
Having grown up in Richmond, I admit that I am a bit sad to see this company go. Some of my friends worked the corporate office fresh out of high school, and I remember when Circuit City was THE place to go for anything technology based. That said, I've done very little shopping there in the past ten years, usually only stopping in to find a CD I can't find elsewhere. Just another in a long line of Richmond based companies to die out. Best, Heilig-Meyers, Thalhimers, Miller & Rhoads. At least Carmax is still going strong.
Circuit City was dead in the water when they lost $114 million on Divx.
(AKA they deserved it)
I guess I should have used my $50 gift card.
I probably won't though.
Nah I'm probably about to use it to order things from the internet.
Cock mongers.
I need blank DVDs; I forgot all mine at school -.-
So is there no way to purchase items on circuitcity.com? The closest Circuit City is about forty minutes from here.
I went today after work there and everything is only 10 per cent off so I left. I'll start buying when it hits 40-50 off everything.
CC is doing a 3 years no interest near here.. should i get something and then they go out of business, then i dont pay.. right?
yeah, uh, I don't think it works like that.
well that sucks major ass.. i had my fingers crossed.
yeah, you would end up having your soul eaten by whoever is buying the debt owned by circuit city. Of course, if the amount was small enough they'd probably just eventually write it off as a loss, but it would still fuck with your credit.
If the store closing sales from a month ago are any indication everything that is sharply discounted will be sold out in a matter of hours. Everything else will be marked down 10-30% but still be hardly less expensive than an average sale at another retailer. Still, people will buy the stuff with their perceived bargain prices. My brother told me Richmond-area stores were madhouses yesterday. As for the discounts, here is a story that says it all.

I am not suprised that they are going out of business. I have NEVER, and I mean NEVER, seen more than 15 people shopping in a Circuit City at one time. The stores were always nice and fancy, but nobody ever in them. It was like that 10 years ago, and it looks like things never changed for them.
Oh well fuck em.
The circuit city around my area was always busy, more so than Best Buy. It was in a very populous neighborhood so that helped of course.
When Best Buy came to our town the Circuit City went to shit. For some reason CC thought that they could have higher prices than Best Buy and still stay in business.
The Circuit Cities in my area closed up long before this announcement. The one in Warner Robins closed around December, and the one in Macon was shut down earlier.
There was one slated to be open in North Macon around last Halloween. Now it's just an empty store in Turn-key condition.
My CC recently build a brand new up to date store this past year. Now they have signs everywhere for 30% off everything. I didn't get a chance to read the sign to well but I'm pretty sure it was 30%.
It's actually a few different liquidation companies setting the prices, so it will probably vary all over the place, with prices getting lower as it gets closer to march
So I walked into Circuit City today after class and the only deals they had were an extra 20% off of movies, the rest of their merchandise was only 10% off the regular price. A wasted trip. I'll go back sometime next month to see if they are actually trying to get rid of their inventory.
From what I've read online, if you haven't already bought your shit, you may have missed the best sales.
I don't know, if they had any amazing deals that already sold out, there must not have been many of them. From the looks of it they haven't sold much of anything. Shelves were still full and the majority of the stuff I remember being there shortly after Christmas were still there.
Then they probably haven't had the good deals yet. I know that each store is doing their sales at different times. I know I don't have the time to be driving by Circuit City 5 times a day, but i hate them anyways. They fucked up the wiring job on my stereo when they put it in my car so I had to go back and re-do it myself.
CC just completed a $300M revamping of their internal distribution, processing, accounting and ordering systems. This was a top to bottom 3 year project that would make them more efficient and streamlined (aka less payroll). I would not be surprised to see the 70-80% off signs come down and "Grand Reopening" signs go up a couple of weeks later. In the same fashion COMP USA pulled their store closing liquidation scam.
