Remember the last time you had a seizure? Well, I'm pretty sure the camera guy does, because every time there was the slightest bit of movement on the screen, the camera guy decided to not inform anyone that he had epilepsy.
I showed up 10 minutes after the beginning, missing previews and maybe 3 seconds of dialogue, because there really isn't anything important being said the entire movie. Oh cool, some guy and some girl are in the forest hunting. Oh a space ship....so this must be in the future. Look at how that bitch dressed, this must be in the future. Epilepsy happens for a minute. They call all the kids, I think it worked like this "If you got fed by these people, your name goes in a box, after a certain time, we draw a name, and then you get to kill kids from the ages of 7-17.
I have nothing but complaints about this movie. Battle Royale had a better story than this, and I don't even know what Battle Royale was about. The main male character starts snitching on the main female character, trying to get her killed. Well, about 5 minutes later she's as happy as can be about seeing him half alive. Then we never talk about him trying to kill her. ever. Oh yea, apparently he had a crush on her 5eva, but she didn't know. Oh look they're in love.
Save your money and pirate this, you might get satisfaction like that, if your friends saw this, and liked it, they probably thought Pooty Tang was a film making masterpiece.
That was a little longer than 3 words.

I seriously thought this was gonna be three words :(
Spoiler
I thought it was pretty good, when the trailer came out like 5 months ago I was like eh, book? what's a book? I'm not gonna read that shit. and I didn't, just so my hopes and expectations weren't crushed. But I still thought it was pretty good, obviously I can only rate it based on the movie and not compare it to the book. The corrupt government was pretty annoying to have to watch. I think if you're going to blame the story, you'd have to blame the book, though I suppose the movie could do a bad job at depicting some parts. Probably in the book it mentions that Peta was never trying to get her killed, obviously in a game of survival, you gotta do what it takes to survive, even hide the truth that you're just in the alliance so you don't die early.
I was pretty sad when Rue died, and this movie just made a shit load of money. I probably won't bother go reading the 2nd and 3rd book, but I am curious as to see what the future plots would be about. My guess is taking down the corrupt as shit government. And good god that lady with extreme make up, the representative of district 12, was so god damn fricken ugly. Truthfully, it really made me feel more hate for the rich. This situation is to an extreme, but the class levels were certainly so fcked up.

For the past few days most of my Facebook feed has been "OMG I love the Hunger Games" and "brb seeing the Hunger Games for the 5th time". I kinda wanna see it just to see what the fuss is about but I have such a high opinion on Battle Royale that I don't know if it'll be fair to compare the two movies.
(btw VS, you should stick with your normal review but then sum it up with 3 words. That'd be cool)

The Hunger Games is definitely the worst film I've ever not seen but still judged purely based on its target demographic

i have epilepsy and i saw this at the cinema on saturday. no seizures were had.
as for the film, it's overrated.
not TERRIBLE though. watchable.
comparing it to twilight is harsh.

I saw the first Twilight with an old ex-girlfriend a long time ago, just a friend thing y'know. We played Mystery Science Theater 3000 the entire movie. And she loved the books.
I'm a pretty cynical movie watcher though, there's few movies I've seen in theaters that I thought were awesome. I was too high for Pineapple Express to know what was going on, but liked it anyways. Superbad was fucking hilarious the first two times I saw it. Dark Knight was awesome.
If you can't tell, I don't see movies much(just wait for netflix), but after I saw the terribleness of "The Sitter" I needed a theater quality experience to cleanse my mind. Hunger Games was not it.
I wish I had seen The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", I've seen the Swedish version, and loved it. Also loved the books.
Maybe the Hunger Games series(whatever the books are called) are pretty good, the movie was terrible, in my way too high of standards, or something.

The last movie I saw in a theatre was The Artist (a couple of days before the oscars). It was also the first movie I'd seen in a theatre in well over a year. I went by myself to a daytime showing and it was wonderful. Completely re-ignited my love for actually going to see films instead of just downloading/renting/buying the dvds x amount of time later.
Doesn't mean I want to see a derivatie tween thriller starring Lenny Kravitz.

apparently you were seizing during the action sequences too.
I mean, really, every time there was any amount of action, I couldn't tell wtf was going on.

gladiator was like that but tbh i kinda prefer the confusion over something like 300

Gladiator was visually beautiful, 300 was just visually gay. Really really gay.

I think you guys are being a little harsh. I never read the book and didn't know anything going in, and I came out of the theater having actually enjoyed it. It definitely didn't suck. Action was decent, story made sense, and it was interesting enough that I'm curious to learn more of the history of the world it is set in.
Not curious enough to read the books, but curious enough to go see the sequels.
And I've seen Twilight, and comparing this to Twilight is like comparing Batman Begins to Batman and Robin. Sure, they target the same demographics, but one is pretty good and tells a decent story with reasonable characters, while the other is a steaming pile of poo.

I will concede this is MUCH better than Twilight.
But I was never engrossed in the story, never really cared, because I couldn't be caught up in it(and I thought I would actually enjoy this movie). If I gave stars in a review, which I don't because that's gay, I'd give this 2 out of 5

I'm sure that I've seen worse movies, but I can't think of one off the top of my head. It really was that bad.
