The DCAU
Over the last couple of months I've dived head-first into the DCAU and just been loving it. I started with Justice League, because I had remembered seeing it on CN once in a while and because the TV Club Classic over at The AV Club started covering it. On my way through, I discovered that Batman: TAS and Superman: TAS (the latter of which I didn't know existed) were predecessors in the continuity, so I've started gobbling them up, too.
I'm a little confused as to what counts in the DCAU continuity and what doesn't -- often the same voice actors are used, but entirely contradictory things happen between movies and shows, so what I've gathered is that the movies basically don't count towards continuity (except that some of them can be seen as sequels for each other), only the show does.
Any other fans of the DCAU? What show is your favourite? What voice actors? What bits?
Also, if there are a good few other fans, I might post some continuing feature in EA, a review as I go kind of thing.

Nothing in B:TAS or S:TAS has gotten to JL levels of awesome yet but I'm not far into either. My favourite moment in any show is Superman's "world of cardboard" speech in the JLU final episode, but the Cadmus arc was pretty much wall-to-wall brilliant as well.
Favourite voice actors: Conroy goes without saying as THE voice of Batman, and likewise Hamill's Joker, and I think George Newbern does a superb Supes (beating Tim Daly's from S:TAS which is also pretty good). But Maria Canals as Hawkgirl is a delight, and manages to create so full a character who, for me, I had no context or background knowledge of this character, so the fact that I got her so quickly was a testament to Canals's acting.

Well all the Batman animated series movies are canon. (Mask of the Phatasm, SubZero, Mystery of the Batwoman and Return of the Joker) all other movies aren't in the same continuity. Also don't forget Batman Beyond, Static Shock, and the Zeta Project are all in the DC Universe. Although Zeta Project and Batman Beyond are set in the future of the DC Universe, while Static Shock is around Justice League time period, and even crosses over with it a few times.
And as for awesomeness, Mask of the Phantasm is regarded as the DC Universe at it's pinnacle.

I never really got into anything from the DCAU other than Batman:TAS which I really do think is the greatest "kids" TV ever made because, if nothing else, it doesn't patronise its audience. Also, the animation is incredibly beautiful and the storytelling is almost always really strong.
Personally, I preferred Batman & Mr Freeze: Subzero to Mask of the Phantasm but, then again, Heart Of Ice is probably my favourite episode so that makes sense.

i have a VAGUE memory of the zeta project, and a clearer but still pretty vague memory of static (RIP dwayne duffie), excepting his appearances on JL. batman beyond i definitely remember liking, and it's only recently that i learned that it was in the same continuity.
-
also, the S:TAS theme is HORRIBLE. i will have to skip it every time i watch. eugh.

Yeah Zeta is defiantly the weakest entry in the DCAU. Also don't forget about the web series, Gotham Girls and the Lobo series. The Gotham Girls series I believe was included on the dvd version of Birds of Prey. They should all be online, the same for the lobo web series.
And if you REALLY enjoy the DCAU, then the comics are worth tracking down. Especially all the ones dealing with the animated Batfamily.Although the final DCAU title ended with a large unresolved plot, the mystery of the DCAU version of the Red Hood.
-
I thought Batman: Year One was a DCAU title? Or do you just mean in that continuity (obviously, Year One is a reboot so isn't the same continuity as everything else)?
Mystery Of The Red Hood really annoyed me. I'd been told it was as good as the animated movies get but the voice acting is terrible and several scenes are just plain stupid.
-
are you talking about "Under The Red Hood"? i thought it resolves at the end who red hood is.
-
Nope in the closing issues of The Batman Adventures vol.2 #8 or #9 they introduced a DC Animated Universe Red Hood, but they cancelled the title with like #17(There's literally a few hundred issues set in the DCAU). And there was no resolution and since then they've kept quite about his identity.only giving one hint. And it''s the DCAU biggest mystery.
That the DCAU Red Hood is connected to Lucious Fox, The Valestra Family from the Mask of the Phatasm and Powers family from Batman Beyond.
And Under the Red Hood isn't part of the DCAU universe, but in an entirely separate one.
