I just found out today via email newsletter that Electronic Gaming Monthly has folded due to massive layoffs. I am truly saddened. EGM was the only gaming magazine that I liked and really one of the only magazines that I read cover to cover.

That kind of sucks, but there are like 5 others to pick from. I personally like getting magazines that are exclusive to your system like PSN, the Official Playstation magazine,XBOX gaming or something and I think that's it. Unless you have more than one system of course.
I don't like "official" magazines because I feel as though their articles and reviews are biased. Also, I like reading articles about the gaming world in general, not just what's new with Playstation or whatever. Also again, who doesn't have more than one system?
As far as a general console gaming magazine, EGM was the best.
I heard about this a couple of weeks ago. My free subs added up to about 7 years left and they're going to refund me for all of them. Hello $100.

Well I kind of like biast magazines because well, I'm biast. I'm a bit of a PS3 fanboy, but that doesn't mean I dislike Xbox360, in fact I think that the 360 is a better system and I would love to have one.
Back to topic, I guess biast opinions do suck though because then you can't interpret the info yourself.

The problem with GI is that they tend to whore out for their exclusivity. They did a 10 page spread on Dark Sector 2 years back that made me reserve the game because of all the features they talked about, then none of them made it into the game. Well, I actually paid for it. I do get a car magazine every few months that I didn't subscribe to... goes right in the trash. I don't consider it a subscription because I didn't subscribe to it.

I've been on the GI kick for awhile myself. Back when I used to play games more, EGM and PSM were the only two I'd really pick up, though. Still have the first few issues of PSM and a bunch of 10-15 year old EGMs somewhere. It's interesting reading through stuff like that from time to time, seeing games that never were or ended up sucking.
I have a copy of the first issue of Nintendo Power. Do you think it would be worth anything?

It was free anyway, and they did get rid of Hsu and Chan...
There are several people in this thread alone that were getting free subscriptions. This was probably part of the problem.
To say the least, advertisements only pay so much. With a few people on this small site alone getting the magazine for free it makes you wonder how many others increased the circulation while sucking up the profit margin.Quote:
