Genre Recommendation.

Okay, so if you had to recommend one book (or series) for each literary genre, what would it be? Mine are...

Fantasy: The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.

Horror: House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski.

Humor: It's a Dirty Job by Christopher Moore.

Satire: The Book of Dave by Will Self.

Science Fiction: The Saint by Dan Abnett.

Biography: The Merchant of Death by Douglas Farah and Stephen Braun.

Thriller: Battle Royale by Koushun Takami.

Mystery: Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson.

If there are any genres I left out, feel free to add 'em.

it'd depend, as with every recommendation, on to whom i am recommending them. to people who i know have a cultural/literary bent, but for whatever reason aren't that well-read in a particlar genre, i'd probably recommend one of the foundation stones or trendsetters of the genre -- tolkien for fantasy, asimov for sci-fi, wodehouse for humour. (i'd probably recommend wodehouse -- specifically jeeves & wooster -- for anyone who wanted a funny book.) that'd probably be my rule of thumb if i could only pick one book/series from each genre no matter who the person.

I haven't heard of any of those books exept House of Leaves.

If you liked the weirdness of House of Leaves, definitely check out the Book of Dave. It's unlike any other book you'd find.
