Saints and Denver. I like Tebow and I hope he does well in the NFL.
I live a couple hours from New Orleans and there are two kinds of people here. Those that love NO and those that hate them. I wished our D was better. They need to pass protect instead of pass rush so much and I think they'd do better. Looking forward to the game tonight. Drew Brees needs 278 passing yards in each remaining game to tie Dan's record. (I think)
The Broncos I've only started following in the past couple of games so I don't know much about them other than they were stupid for starting Kyle Orton in the first place. I'd start the mascot before I'd start Orton.
Atomic, you're a moron. Kyle Orton was a perfectly good QB under McDaniels. Tebow is only making headlines because their defense is giving up 13 points a game. The regression to the mean will be hitting him hard, just like Mike Vick.
It just doesn't take a quality quarterback to score 14 points, especially when you can handoff to Willis McGahee for 4.8 yards per carry.

As a Giants fan, I despise the saints more than any non division team other than the patriots.

Not sure why you would despise Saints by being a Giants fan but okay. We get a lot of Giants fans (Mostly women) around here because of Eli Manning growing up in the south, and playing of Ole Miss. Not sure why we have Ole Miss fans though... We also had a lot of Green Bay fans around here but they switched to the Jets. Then Vikings. And now they are confused. I think a lot of them are going back to being Green Bay fans. I can't blame them, they look good.
Giants last 5 games against Saints: 0-5. Average margin of defeat: ~25. Fuck the Saints.
Though I was rooting for them last night, and it was nice to see the Lions lose. Somehow the Giants are still alive. I don't know how, but they are.
The Saints and Packers are the two best teams in the NFL at the moment. I actually think the Saints might be better.

Good year to be a niners fan, finally. They're a top five team, and could even make a playoff run. Titans are pretty good too, might even make the playoffs. Probably not, but there's a chance.
I know, I was expecting pretty much nothing from both. Titans are doing a bit better than I expected (No Payton Manning and a relatively easy schedule helps), but Jesus the Niners are solid. It's been a painful majority of a decade, but there may be something to Harbaugh's system.
I still don't know if Alex Smith has what it takes to be the franchise QB (I'm thinking not), but the defense is vicious and pretty young. Might be the start of something.
And Jake Locker looked pretty good in his time against the Falcons a couple of weeks ago. He almost brought us back. I think the kid is going to be pretty good once Hasselbeck gets done with him. Hasselbeck may not have ever been great, but he's one of those guys who seems like he knows how to be and just never had the tools. Locker seems to have the tools.
If I had to guess, I'd say that the niners stick it out with Smith for a couple of years, and really hope that Kapernick develops into something more than what Smith is. For now, he's a quintessential game manager. He's prone to mistakes if you ask him to do more for you, and I really don't think the 49ers can win a game when they let up more than 27 points or so, but as long as the defense keeps the other team down they have a shot. I don't see how they can beat the Packers or Saints, but a couple turnovers throughout the course of the game could easily swing it in their favor. I wouldn't count them out, but at this point I think the NFC Championship Game will be Packers Saints, with the 49ers losing their first playoff game. Still, it was one hell of a year, and like I said anything can happen in one emotionally charged game, especially with a defense as good as the 49ers. Plus, with the way the team is built I don't see them losing the division any time soon, so you'll have something to look forward to every year.Quote:

Favre was one of a kind. That's a hard way to play the position. It's certainly not unheard of for bad accuracy in college to translate to good performance in the pros, but it's rare. Jesus Christ no he's not. Joe Flacco is the ultimate embodiment of the Franchise QB myth (yes, more so than Sanchize.) He's below "game manager" in the quality scale. He brings nothing to the table. If he took a Joe Theisman tomorrow in practice, it wouldn't even move the line for this weekend. It's not like the Ravens don't have a top 5 defense, top 5 offensive line, and a mauling rushing attack (not to mention legitimate receiving threats.)
Joe Flacco is most likely a bottom 15 quarterback in the NFL. I didn't say he was good. I said you can win with him. Not he can win for you, you can win with him. And the Ravens will win with him. But you can do far worse than Joe Flacco. He's a middling quarterback, and if you're strong in all other areas, you can win with a middling quarterback. If you plugged Flacco into the Titans they'd probably be fine.
Tim Tebow is a more effective quarterback than Joe Flacco
That's too bold a statement. I don't think Tebow can be effective for more than half a season. We'll see. For now I'd stick with Flacco. Though Tebow on the Ravens would be a very interesting proposition. Tebow makes my brain hurt, I have no idea how he keeps winning.

You realize Tebow is on a team that had no real rushing attack, no offensive line, and that traded away it's two best receivers in consecutive years? For the same reasons I don't blame Kyle Orton (who also statistically outperformed expectations, except for the most arbitrary category: win-loss), you can't discount Tebow's contributions. Unlike most media, I don't attribute McGahee's gigantic rushing average to Tebow, but rather to the scheme change that his passing skills precipitated--but it doesn't change the fact that Tebow is operating within a scheme that suits his talents and the team is more successful as a result. I discounted his performance because his defense is allowing 13 points a game, but compared to Flacco, who routinely costs his outstanding defense field position and ultimately points, Tebow is outperforming offensive expectations and, at the very least, not putting his defense in a hole. Flacco has 17 turnovers (1.5/game), Tebow has 5 (.8ish, depending on how much credit you give him for week 5 against SD.)
Dont get me wrong, I don't want Tebow as my "franchise QB" either, because defenses will adjust to the more exotic play calls and scout teams will be able to better model their attack (linebacker scrape, anyone?) But defenses dont HAVE to adjust to Flacco--he sucks just fine in his own, and has for a while. He is the perfect example of the Franchise QB myth... He is serviceable in antiquated passing statistics, n a talented team that finds ways to win around him, and is given the benefit of the doubt. Is he the worst signal caller in the league? No... Caleb Hanie and Tyler Palko both have jobs. But his performance is utterly unworthy of his exalted status with the media and, apparently, Ravens organization.
Then again, when your oranization celebrates a Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer, in a season in which Ray Lewis once told his offense to hurry up and get off the field so the defense could score the game-winner, you probably aren't privy to the higher level thought processes required to divorce binary results from statistical probabilities when it comes to your QBs.

I agree with everything you said except that last part. You always stand on 12. Always.
Also, what the hell did I say that's so wrong. Both of these guys are likely to be pretty bad quarterbacks in the long run. No way either breaks into the top half of the league in my opinion, though if one of them was going to I think it's Flacco. I just don't see how Tebow can maintain the style of play he uses going forward, and I don't see the physical skillset to turn him into a pass-first quarterback. I think he's a forever gimmick guy, and nobody will really want him as a starter if they want to actually win playoff games.
But it's not like I said Flacco is better than Ben Roethlesburger or Philip Rivers. I said he was better than Tim fucking Tebow. Who has been fine for his first seven career games, but what does that say about his next fifty? In my mind, nothing. It's the definition of small sample size. He's like the Hideo Nomo of quarterbacks. It's new and funky and deceptive and ultimately lacking in what the great players of the position actually do. At least Flacco has a cannon, so I could see him developing into something even if he's been pretty damn mediocre up to this point. But I could definitely see the Ravens winning a super bowl this year, and you can't deny that when it has come to the games against quality opponents this year, Flacco has been pretty good. Way better than he's been against the scrubs, which leads me to believe that his biggest problem at this point is not taking games seriously when he doesn't respect his opponent.
