What actually happened to LWS?

I'm not sure I ever knew the actual sequence of events on that one. I quit message boards entirely starting in, I dunno, 2007, and then when I checked a couple years later it was just...gone. I honestly couldn't tell you if it still existed in 2007. I'm murky on the details.

I do remember certain communities being spun off into their own boards (awful idea even at the time, but that's neither here nor there). But I never quite knew why LWS itself ceased to exist, what caused it, whose decision it was, basically any of that. Somebody here has to know so...tell me.

That was TGO.

Basically, the guy he sold it to put in a word filter for swear words, and then got rid of flames. People shit, started spamming, he started banning people, then they started registering and spamming the shit out of the board, then he got newvous and went to turn the server off or some shit and accidentally deleted the whole thing.

Sounds like $50k well spent.

Sucks though, LWS was a good site.

It begs the question: how does one person fail so hard?

It still brings me pleasure to think that he did it all single handedly, and with his own money. Niel must feel so retarded still, even after all this time.

Well, David was like 30 something who had done an odd assortment of jobs and careers in his life with no retirement. I could see where selling his venture into internet business was the best thing he could do. Too bad he just said fuck the site and let some bastard rape the site.

To be fair, it was partially my fault since I was the go-between. I did some server work for Niel on another site. He was looking to buy a general discussion forum, I got him in contact with TGO as i knew TGO was looking to offload LWS.

But then Niel went crazy. I tried to stop him. He wanted to off-load Flames and the general discussion forum to another site. I convinced him to give me the Casual Discourse domain. For a brief time there was a link and a banner pointing to this domain until he went full retard and turned the site off.

i genuinely have no recollection of really anything about that time. i remember bits and pieces, like the language filter, but i'd forgotten that he tried to walk flames off the plank. and i had forgotten that i quit. i guess i assumed i and everyone else was fired, but yeah, it certainly makes more sense that chrissy and the rest of us quit

there's some "lite" versions that I'll probably install first to see how they are. but the mods are around $80-100 each if I don't want to pay for them yearly.

the piggy bank is at about $44 right now, so we're $106 short on vB 4.0.

But I've never understood the importance of marriage. I'd say 75+% of my friend's parents are divorced, of my friend's who have gotten married, I'd say 10% are divorced(and this is only with like 1-5 years behind their belts), and I guess my parents being divorced have something to do with it.

I just didn't want to feel responsible for that(I'm a type 1 diabetic, which is mostly genetic, other than the fact that Diabetes is nowhere in my family tree).

Can you please point to the chapter and verse where God told Moses about the importance of marital tax benefits, estate law, power of attorney, or insurance and credit benefits? I remember The Gun Owner sold LWS to some idiot. However, just before this incident happened, the dbag guy who went to perdue (forgot his name) banned me for flaming someone. I was a long time member before that (like even before TGO gave away the free live strong bracelets!). He may have had some right to discipline my actions, but I think a ban was going too far.
