The Christmas 2011 Loot thread

Here ya go, kids. This is the thread where you can tell the world (and by "world" I mean the 15 or so people that visit this website) about what you got this year.


My wife got me LOST: The Complete Collection on Blu-Ray, as well as a nice set of speakers for my computer. (I haven't had speakers on my computer in about 5 years, and I'm sick of wearing headphones all the time. She also got me a Deadpool hat (limited edition, etc. etc.) and a couple shirts :)

My sister & brother-in-law got me the Exodus expansion for the Battlestar Galactica Board Game, and the Game of Thrones board game.

My roommate (a friend of ours that we moved up to Wisconsin from Texas) got me the wireless adapter for my HTPC so I can use my 360 controller with it. Now I can finally start playing those thousands upon thousands of MAME roms I have on my HTPC!


My parents are coming over in about 20 minutes for brunch, there will be more presents to open then!


What did you guys get that you think is completely awesome?

My wife got her Kindle Fire for an early gift, I got an iPhone 4S early. Last weekend at my mom's house I got some clothes and a neat little wooden dresser box. Today I opened socks, Little Big Planet 2, a Leatherman micro, and got a very generous amount of cash money. The kiddo got all kinds of books, little toys, and bedsheet set. I fired up Sony Vegas for the first time and made a little video from my iPhone clips of her opening presents which turned out pretty well.

i got a 40" sharp aquos tv + wall mount, and the usual bits of clothing that will go to goodwill or be worn only when i sleep.

My dad and mom paid to have new brakes and tires installed on my car. My little sister bought me clothes. Grandma gave me a fat stack of cash. Friends just buy me alcohol and books and offer to take my turn for designated driver.

My parents got me 12GB RAM for my desktop PC (bringing my total up to 18GB, and 4GB for my netbook.

I bought the missus a ring (dark red garnet in sterling silver), a blanket, and some other stuff.

My brother-in-law kept saying how he wanted a coffee maker like mine (I have a Tassimo single-cup system) but since he doesn't drink lattes or that other bullshit, We got him a real nice Keurig.

I haven't been shopping yet but I think I'm gonna get a Martin Margiella coat, a cashmere Prada scarf, a Jack Spade knit cap, some Prada wingtips, Gucci cap toes, and an Hermes ash tray.

Oh and I already ordered some dress shirts from my tailor so I guess those count, too.

Disappointments of Christmas 2011: Too much hard candy and chocolate in stocking candy. Too many ugly socks I will never wear.
Recommendation for 2012: Increase variety of candy. Accompany gift givers when choosing socks.

Today I learned KT is having an affair with her boyfriend's dad and is getting good presents as shut-up money



We had an awesome dinner last night, we went over to another couple's house and I cooked a couple of racks of lamb and made a rosemary and red wine sauce for it. Plenty of side dishes and we went through 3 bottles of nice wines and had some Evan Williams eggnog with nutmeg on top for dessert.

I got a kindle and Billy Connolly tickets, as well as Assassins Creed: Revelations

I got banned twice.

I like the chocolate oranges but greatly prefer the chocolate raspberries.

I got disposable items made out of precious rare earths

85 bucks some shirts and hoodies, a cd and a dvd.

Gift card, money, more money, graphics card, and a thin fleece for skiing. Supposedly my brother got me a video game, but I'll believe it when I see it.

i tell people that i'm virtually a jew. my parents are upper middle class accountants, i whine a lot... err that's about it, aside from my mom's caste being one of extremely rich business owners who are annoyingly miserly and reviled by others for it.

anyway i got a book and some gift certificates, with which I thus far used to buy a neat jacket. i'm also going to get a refurbished Acer W500 Windows tablet for which I've partly paid.

windows 8 developer's edition is out, and given that it's been developed with tablets in mind, i can't wait to try it out. i heard it's pretty stable.

I got a Kindle Fire, Hitch on Blu-Ray, and tickets to go see Nobuo Uematsu in concert as my Christmas gift highlights.

Got a lot of gift cards too, including one to Kroger (grocery store). I'm an actuary, I don't need gift cards for groceries. wtf is that?

I don't like being associated with them, can't I be in like the 38% or something? The 38% who makes enough money to be just fine but not so much money to buy a jet plane?
