How to be a good dm?

I want to be a dm.

Don't DM?

Creativity(if it's a custom deal)/Competence
Own the books.
Read the books.

Hell, if you're doing custom dungeons, rather than quest type shit, if I had a copy of the rules and a map laid out for me, I could come up with some fun dungeon crawling.

doesn't matter who comes up with great ideas, experiencing them is what counts

also, i suggest playing the game for a while to get familiar with it before trying to run it.
