Just bought a Missouri Meerschaum corn cob pipe and some captain black tobacco, thought I'd try smoking out of a pipe cause I can't handle cigarettes and cigars cost too much. Anyone got any good suggestions on how to properly pack a pipe and what tobacco is good?

Aside from that, put in a pinch into the bowl, and spark away, I can't think of any good brands.

I didn't get one to be cool, I got one cause I just wanted to try it, I don't know if I will continue to use it after tonight. And it isn't my fault that you have something stuck in your head, I never once thought of frosty the snowman when buying or smoking my pipe.
Ashton make some really good flavored tobacco for pipes. I have a few tins of them.
And you need a pipe tamper to keep it lit. You will have to pack it as you take a puff a few times. Takes a little while to get it down, but its not hard.
A nail with a descent sized head will work just as well as a tamper though.
Also get a wooden or meerschaum pipe. Corncob sucks.

I'm liking this corn cob, doesn't smell much after smoking it, sturdy and dirt cheap. Figured I'd move on to a briar pipe if I choose to pick pipe smoking up. This captain black is pretty good too for it's price, my mother says it smells like cookies.
Captain Black is ok. Your best bet is to find a local tobacconist and buy specific types of pipe tobacco in bulk. My dad (who's smoked a pipe relentlessly since before i was born) prefers a 50/50 mix of Virginia Gold with Black Cavendish and he also smoked Captain Black for years, before this.
There's also a guide to tobaccos (sort of like dry wine -> sweet wine), and I think, in North America, it runs from Aromatics (which smell great but are very bitter) to English blends (which tend to smell less awesome, but have a much richer flavour). I would suggest grabbing a few 50g bags from a shop (or even ordering them online, they really aren't that expensive) from across the range and find out what you prefer.
I still have a box of pipe stuff somewhere. The guy I bought the house from smoked for decades and left packs of pipe cleaners, new cleaning tools, and other goodies for me, a nonsmoker. I probably have some pipe tobacco somewhere.
