About to buy a rifle.

I have been looking around for a nice cheaper priced rifle for a while now, and I have decided that I want a Romanian PSL. I have had my eye on it for a while at a local mom and pop store and if all goes as planned I will buy it today. It appears to be in very good condition and is priced at $450 with one magazine and no scope. Most in like condition I see going online do include the scope and an extra magazine but they are also usually $800+

It's not a dragunov, don't call it a dragunov. Thats an insult to all the collectible dragunov's and the gun nuts that spend into the thousands for them.

Are you into hunting then if your getting a rifle? I suck at aiming (I admit it!) so it's all about shotguns for me. If I could get my hands on a pancor jackhammer I would cream my jeans.

I too am looking for a gun or two. Soley for personal protection though. I don't even really know what I want. Do you think 9mm's are a bit over-rated?

That does seem like a pretty good price, but a scope will run you a few hundred. If it were me, Id just go buy a normal AK-47 for about the same price, and get as many bullet and high capacity mags as you can while you still can.

Yes. They are. 9MM bullets are small. With that being said, I do keep a 9MM pistol in my car. I keep a .40 S&W by my bed, and I have a 1911 that I keep elsewhere incase I need it.

Here are the bullets in this order, 9MM FMJ, .40 S&W Federal Hydrashock, and .45 ACP FMJ.

Id go with a .40. It has more knockdown power while not having much more recoil. I have the 9 just because its a subcompact pistol.

Despite it being known as that and even in some cases sold under that name, it is not truly a dragunov. If i put a Chevy emblem on a Ford it is still a shitty old ford it doesn't become an almost equally crappy Chevy.

Its possible I would do some hunting with it but I have a shotgun also. I'd be ok with the open sights for a while until I can find a scope. One of my dislikes was magazine capacity, however it seems to be a more powerful round so hopefully that won't be necessary. I had considered the AK also but it was a bit more pricey for the non Chinese crap.

Yea, its ok to call it a Druganov. I call my AR-15 an M4. Its not QUITE and M4, but its gets the point across.

And Id worry about getting an AK first. If Obama has his way, the Assault Rifle ban will come back, and AKs will be hard to get for a low prive. Id say the price of about $450 they go for now will probably be more around like $600 in like 6 months.

I'm agreeing with Anony get a .40 or bigger for self defense. I have a .45 but wished I'd have gotten the .40 a little.

Yes but it's effectiveness against an armed attacker leaves it lacking. Where a .45 will put a man down the 9mm may allow him to live and kill you back. You are after all defending your life.

BTW if this is for home then just get a shotgun.

Ok ok yall call it what you want. I was just trying to be more correct. Anyhoo depressing news, they had sold it when I got there today. They did have another one that was absolutely in immaculate condition and did come with a scope, however it only came at an $899 price tag. A good deal in my opinion, but more than I could afford at this time.

I went for the secondary option AK 47. Romanian. Good shape, little faded on wood finish but no deep scratches or nothing. Came with tool/cleaning kit, that odd little bottle with the grease or oil or whatever it is, strap, and 2 thirty round magazines. Price was $400. Pictures coming as soon as I can afford a new camera memory card(i sat on it lol).

Since everyone else is talking about handguns in here, when I obtain the cash, would anyone give me a real reason to avoid a .45 ACP glock.

(ALSO petition to bring the armory back to CD)

Nope. Just make sure you get a .45 ACP and not a .45 GCP.

As far as the romanian AKs. they dont look awesome, but they work. THey are the cheapest ones you can get.

I have (and carry) everything from .32 ACP to .45 ACP pistols. A gun in the hand...yada yada yada.

There are big bore fans and medium bore fans, but to be honest any 9mm, .40 or .45 with modern JHP ammunition is going to be more than adequate for self-defense. Some people will never carry anything smaller than .45, while others swear by the larger capacity of a 9mm. As for me, I base my carry decision on clothing and other factors. If I am dressed for summer, the little Kel-Tec .32 is perfect, and much easier to conceal/carry than even the Kel-Tec 9mm. If I am wearing layers, it is the .13 round capacity Para .45.

.45 does not trump 9mm in all situations, either. If penetration is needed, 9mm is a much better choice.

As for the OP, $450 seems a decent deal for what you are getting.

Yea, I mean a 9mmwill still do some serious damage. I would definitely rely on one. Especially if you have some hydrashock bullets in it.

Yeah i'd get ACP. I just don't really like the GCP, IMHO its like the 10mm its just not as wide spread available. The .45 ACP round has been around quiet a lot longer than me and numerous weapons are chambered for it so its pretty safe to assume its not going to disappear.

Its nothing fancy Annoy but it puts hot lead down range in a hurry and I could afford it, a gun that looks awesome that I can't afford sitting on a shelf in the gun stored won't do me much good if I need it. Just my thoughts, not any kinda flame here.

Any idea where I could find an under folder stock for it for a reasonable price? I don't' have problems finding side folder but under folders seem to be a bit harder to locate. Also for the front I found a rail set but its reinforced resin (aka plastic of some sort) but I don't see anyone selling metal ones. Would the plastic hold up ok or should I really look for metal.

The .45 GAP is marketed as a shorter (read: smaller pistol) alternative to the .45 ACP. I don't have data in front of me, but ballistics supposedly approximate the ACP's. Still, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, and unless you want maximum concealability, I'd stick with the century old ACP cartridge.

Oh Annony thanks for the links, will order the rails as soon as I get the funds. What does it mean on the stock that the trunnion isn't included? (sorry i'm kinda a noob)

The trunnion is the part that the stock connects to and turns on. You will need to buy those elsewhere.
