Is there anything I can take/do to substitute for my Anti Depressants? My prescription ran out and I'm not going to be able to get any more for a while (It's already been about a week and a half) and I am starting to feel like shit. I'm honestly on the verge of suicide, and I just want something to make it stop. Any ideas?
I had pretty decent results with 5-HTP. You can get it at some pharmacies and just about any health store. I'm sure that it won't completely take the place of your meds, but it may make things easier for you until you can get more.
Kava is supposed to help anxiety, and anxiety is usually a part of depression. I've never tried it, but it might be worth a shot.
You really cannot get more of your anti-depressants? It can be terribly unhealthy to just suddenly go cold turkey off of them. Unless it's a matter of money, I'm sure you can make an arrangement for your local pharmacy to dispense some for you...
Please try to get your anti-depressant if at all possible.

I'm pretty sure that they wanted temporary replacements for prescription anti-d's...not new ones. They couldn't buy their pills at the time...you're telling them to get new medication that they won't be able to fill?Quote:

St. John's Wort is an MAOI. This information may or may not help you. It won't if you were on an SSRI.
What you need to do is call a medical professional and explain that you're out of <your A-D> and need an emergency prescription. It might be a bit pricey, but there are plenty of generics that you can use by now.

I'm currently really low on money, so I couldn't pay to refill the prescription for a few weeks. I ended up doing a dumb thing (branded myself) to deal with it, but overall I'm ok now (I've had the prescription for a couple days now) Thanks for the responses

Just a word of advice...try to separate your money so that you have funds for specific things like prescriptions...then don't dip into that money for any reason unless it's a dire emergency. I know you're low on cash at the moment, but it'll probably help you in the long run.
