Poll for the men

I personally think my girlfriend wears too much makeup. It's something she's just started doing in the last month or so, and I think her intentions are good - she wants to "look good for me". Except she doesn't. Where before (from what I can tell anyway) she just wore a little eye makeup that accentuated her eyes, she's now started using enough face makeup to spackle sidewalk cracks, enough blush to look like a porcelein doll, and dark dark DARK eyeliner.

I mean seriously, the other night we were watching a movie, she had her head resting on my leg and when she got up to get another beer, there was makeup on my pants.

Now that's a bit much. This isn't a whiny "How do I tell my GF to stop wearing so much makeup" thread because I know how to do that, with a decent amount of tact, I'm just wondering where girls get the idea that the less lifelike they look, the more we'll like them. That's not true for me, just wondering how the other men here feel.

I suspect that a lot of girls learn to apply makeup from their friends or female relatives who think that piling on pounds of foundation is somehow a good idea.

It isn't.

It baffles me that, in 2008, people continue to wear makeup. The entire cosmetics industry is predicated on making women feel bad enough about themselves that they hide their faces behind glorified spackle.

Of course, I might change my tune if I had to look at a bunch of truly ugly people without makeup on a daily basis.

I really get a kick out of the fact that they keep coming out with new products. Yeah, the 46,973 shades of lipstick available yesterday didn't make you beautiful, but this new one today sure will. I guess I have to admit that they're marketing geniuses.

I like girls au natural. In fact, in my life I've only dated girls who rarely or never wear makeup. If you don't have natural beauty to start off with, then you have no chance of becoming a milf or a gilf.

I don't think all women wear makeup because they think they look bad otherwise. Some women wear makeup because they just like the way it looks every once in a while. Most of the time I don't wear makeup but I do enjoy doing something fun with it if I'm in the mood. I think I look fine both ways; most women do. I think its kind of like wearing jeans and a t-shirt. It looks good but its nice to get dressed up sometimes.

My girlfriend only used to wear make-up when we were going out or on special occasions as she doesn't really need to.

I got her a MAC make over for her birthday about a month ago and she bought about £150 worth of MAC (which is like 5 things as make-up is waaay too fuckin expensive.) During the make over the lady who did the make over explained to her how to put it on evenly without going over the top and I think she looks really good with it on now.

So my solution...get her a makeover and tell the make up artist to show her how to apply it properly.

Besides, makeup just rubs off on my face and such and it irritates me.

Oh I did tell her straight after it happened again today. This is part of why my day has been shitty - only part, mind you. I was already pissed off about other shit and she went to the makeup counter in Boston Store AGAIN and was looking at the most VILE shade of eyeshadow I have ever seen in my life ever ever EVER so I pulled her aside and said, look, I've tried to be nice about this - and honestly I have, I've tried the old reverse compliment, like "Oh you're wearing makeup tonight, you really don't need to, you look so natural and pretty without it (which is actually true, or with just a little eye makeup - and I've tried being a little less than nice saying things like "I really liked your eyemakeup better the way you were doing it before, not a fan of the heavy eyeliner" and nothing.

So today it just go spit out. Like "Do you have any idea how many shirts/pants I've had to try to scrub makeup off of since you've started dolling yourself up like Tammy Faye? That shit's a waste of money first of all and second of all if you think you need it you're wrong, if I wanted a girl that looked like a blow up doll I'd just go buy a blow up doll and save myself all this bullshit".

Mind you this is the girl who always wants to borrow money or wants me to buy shit because she's always short on the rent. Then she's gonna buy a fucking $30 thing of neon purple eyeshadow.

Anyway she got all pissed off, which honestly was kind of the aim, if I'm going to tell the truth I feel like such shit today I kind of wanted to piss on someone else's day too, we go back to my place and she's doing the butt hurt but don't want to talk about it thing and I finally told her look I know I was harsh but you didn't listen any other way, you're wearing too much fucking makeup and if it's to impress me it's not working, and if it's to try to impress some other guy it's probably not working either.

Oddly enough, I think she got the message. :blush:
