Am I the only one who finds this foolish?

They are going to buy products from only 'black' owned businesses. This is supposed to help fix the economic situation of the 'black' community. I honestly don't see the point in this at all, it isn't going to fix the problems in the communities, as they are fair deeper rooted than just business. Look at the education they receive, more look at the education that is provided, and what they decide to walk away with. When I can talk to two people from the same school, same classroom, same age, and get two totally different styles of speech, two completely different levels of intelligence, and I can see complete disregard to certain things in one. While the other embraces such things.

This whole social experiment is nothing more than blatant racism and idiocy. You want to help the black community, put information out there, help them, don't just spend money at black owned business because this isn't going to fix the problem. If you are being so lazy as to just spend your money at a black business rather than to go as far as volunteering time at a recreational center, or another place that causes more stimulation in the younger generation.

Basically I find it to be very foolish.

Basically it is almost segregation if only whites shop at white businesses, and only blacks shop at black businesses like said couple says will fix things.

If I purchased at white-owned businesses only and made it publicly known, I'd be a racist, not some economic maverick. Regardless of whether or not I tried to call it an experiment.

Because we all know that the black economy and white economies do not co-mingle at any given time and that they are two separate entities that will never have any outcome on one another.

I am always cautious to evaluate a large group of people based on its lowest examples, but in this case I have to suspect that the foresight to even come up with an idiotic plan like this sets them somewhere near the middle of the pack.

Do they not realize that they are killing their own purchasing power at this point? They are obviously going to be paying a premium for products from black-owned businesses (if black-owned business already created more value for consumers, they wouldn't be struggling and needing idiotic measures like this to "save" them.)

I'm also moderately exhausted with the stupid racism card. The truth is that we are naturally inclined to associate with people most like us, and we tend to grow up in areas segregated not based on race, but based on various socio-economic factors that have been reinforced within racial groups over the past 2-300 years. There's a reason that wealthy Indians and wealthy whites often co-mingle, while wealthy blacks are often self-segregated: because wealthy blacks are usually first-generation and wealthy whites and Indians were usually raised with money.

Seriously, changing the obsession from race to class isn't a better system.

At least the racism card (and the subsequent frowning upon) encourages people to be more considerate towards people they might assume they shouldn't otherwise be. And it gradually erodes away at racist insults and forces people to insult based on more important personal factors instead of just throwing out the old 'shut up you nigger' (Flames excluded obviously).

He is explaining some pretty basic economic/sociological concepts and you're trying to commentate on it (but just spewing stupid) I get that. Also to imply I (anyone) is inclined to be considerate to someone because of racism is pretty fucking lol

No, I wasn't commentating on his explanation. I was saying that acknowledging the cultural differences as class-based as opposed to race-based wouldn't be any better.

I kinda disagree with this. I mean, you can't change your race (excluding Michael Jackson) but if you work hard and better yourself, you can change your surroundings and the people you associate with. I'm not saying that gives you the right to spit on the people who are considered "beneath" you or to blame those "in charge" for everything but it does seem more reasonable then hating someone for being born into a different culture or different pigment.
