Tell me everything and anything about shopping for a hotel room and how to get the best rates and best deal. I want to know what to look for, what to ask for, and where to look. I'm looking for advice from anyone who travels frequently such as salesman and legendary bards or just anyone who has stayed at a hotel. Please, can anyone help me out?

I am not picky, so clean sheets and a decent rate is all I look for. That said, I do give repeat business to hotels that go out of their way to make me happy. Oftentimes a manager is able to negotiate a rate if you are good at haggling. My sister used to work for a hotel and used her skills to talk a $150 room down to $100.

I wish I had made this thread before I had picked a room. I checked my bank statement and the hotel charged me for $300+ for checking in for the weekend. I checked in this morning (Saturday at 2 AM) and I'm leaving tomorrow at 11 AM. I was told that the going weekend rate was $111 per night. I am about to go down there to check my bill to see what I'm paying for.
Also, depending on where you go, check out lodging if there is a military installation nearby. Other places like Hawaii and Disney World have military resorts. The Hale Koa in Hawaii is supposedly five-star rated and I found I could get a room for as little as $50 a night a few years ago.

Some places give discounts if you are a AAA member. Something you might want to look into as well.
Awesome, something I might actually have experience with. So yeah, the internet is probably the best way to go because they show you plenty of deals right there. However, once you book it via priceline or whatever, CALL THE HOTEL and double check because there are plenty of screw ups.
Other then that, just call the hotel and ask for their rates. If you don't like it, ask if they have a rate book of all the other local hotels. Most of the time the front desk clerks can give you the rate and occupancy of every hotel in town and it's a real time saver from calling each individual hotel.

Military resort on base is $28 a night and it is luxurious and well accomodated. The Airbase across the bay is as nice but $58 which is a relatively good rate versus commercial resorts.Quote:
