"It is a traffic infraction to drive continuously in the left lane of a multilane roadway when it impedes the flow of other traffic," the statute reads.

I don't know exactly what Washington state traffic law says about this, but I think it's generally okay to exceed the speed limit in order to pass someone (as long as you're not speeding severely or for longer than it takes to pass); otherwise passing would be impossible when traffic is flowing at the posted speed limit. So yes, going the speed limit in the left lane impedes traffic.

That's really weird. So the speed limit is the speed limit, unless you want to get ahead of the guy a few car lengths ahead of you who is sitting on exactly the speed limit?

Sounds like some overdeveloped sense of competitiveness, to be honest.

That's exactly my point - why do you need to overtake someone if they're not travelling under the speed limit? (other than because they are preventing you from exceeding the speed limit yourself)?

It appears that law-enforcement have the same idea about speed-limits that most of us do, which is on the interstate the REAL speed to be going is 5 or 10 MPH over the posted limit. The LAW itself says "(4) It is a traffic infraction to drive continuously in the left lane of a multilane roadway when it impedes the flow of other traffic."

So the flow of traffic is well known to be over the posted limit, and apparently the flow of traffic is more important than the "posted limit". I hate faggots who sit in the left lane going the speed limit and won't merge over to the right.

The left lane is technically only to be used to make a left turn, or to pass traffic moving slower than you, it is unlawful just to sit in the left lane on the interstate doing the limit.

Seriously that is the best idea.

The left-hand lane law isn't a law in every state, but it is a law in some. I would say this really isn't wtf worthy. It is pretty common knowledge, and I know several people who have been ticketed for it in Kentucky (where they enforce it like super niggers)

This is really the biggest problem in Ohio. Has anyone actually driven through there? Why do so many people there stay in the left lane on highways? Is it part of their drivers ed system to piss off people from other states?
