Posters for my friends' band...

So I got put with the job of making posters for my friends' band Wildwood.

I am using a shitty free editor called Photofiltre

These probably won't be printed any bigger than normal 8x11 size. They just want some posters they can put up on bulletin boards or doors. Stuff like that. They told me what they were sort of looking for and what they want the posters to say.

Here are the rough drafts I'm showing them tonight to give them a basic idea and see if this is what they were going for. What do you guys think?

Is this a family band like the Partridge Family?

Nope. Only two of the guys are related.

Oh well then, that is quite the hodge-podge of musicians.

Everything looks really great, composition, photography, etc, EXCEPT for the fonts. Jesus, could they look at more tacky? Try downloading some new fonts and not use the ones that come with Windows.

Thanks KT. Yeah I only have the basic fonts that come with the photo editor I was using. I didn't really like the fonts either, but like I said these were just rough drafts.

I mean that seriously. I begrudgingly love bands like that, as much as my poncey pretentious friends hate them.

Font thing aside, my other criticism is the photos are not very good, in terms of focus. On the first one, the neon sign looks really cool, I would actually have taken 2 photos, one of the neon sign as is, and another of the band in focus and stitched them together. The others are just out of focus and the lighting is blown out badly. Not bad though, you're on the right track for sure.

Gee ViciousMentality, that looks like a really swell band! If I lived in MN I would take my number one girl and I bet we'd have a real boss time!

Typography needs work but balance is good. You can grab some cool free fonts from dafont.com but watch the licensing. Don't know what you're doing with your images there, maybe throw a cooling filter over the second one? I'm interested to see how these turn out.

Also, the MSComic or whatever font is used in the first one is too cheesy in my opinion. The poster needs more of an edge if you don't want the band to look like it plays at Chuk e Cheeses and retirement homes.

I like the serif fonts in the other two, but lose the exclamation mark.

I would totally bone the girl in the first two pictures. The (same, obviously) girl in the third pictures is a strict no-no-tho.
