Of Moths and Men
The lights of the city are beautiful but destroy the beauty of many other things. The stars dim in the florescence of street lamps. Beckoning forth the legions of moths who bathe in the false light. Where did they flock to before artificial light? Did they search out flowers like butterflies and other insects? Attempt to reach the moon an stars? Did they notice reflections on the tranquil surface of a pond? The mirrored image of what they desire so deeply. Seeing their dreams within reach, only to find themselves trapped, their wings doused by a false image of success. How many times has this happened to us?
Humanity can be described in the same tone as those hapless moths. Always trying for the grandest of achievements, but plunging into failure when they shortcut themselves because their dreams were too big. Always settling for less because it looks the same to them.
After years of failure and rather than adapting to reach what we desire; we erected things in glorification of feelings that are meaningless. Rather than adapt and progress, we fulfilled the need of being distracted. Put our goals of bettering ourselves in easy to reach places. Created duplications of our desires to keep our minds at ease. Why fret when you can pat yourself on the back and feel accomplished with the most trivial of notions? Why try to reach the moon when you can bathe in the street lights? Why strive for a true goal and possibly fail when success can be bought?
The only difference between us and them, is we are able to fake success without death...
