Car problems.. HELP!

My 2001 Chevy Cavalier z24 has been acting up.

- The headlights do not work, only the fog light or whatever works.

- When I turn on the head lights, the doors lock or unlock.

- My odometer is scrambled.

- My windshield wipers do not work; they work for a couple of inches and die, almost like their not getting enough power.

Any idea? This is really pissing me off because now I can't drive it at night. I'm going to check the fuses, but I don't have a fuse puller so I can't check it right now.

found this thread, sounds strangely similar but I think it's unlikely my switch is bad I mean.. how many switches can be bad?

Sounds like you have some serious electrical problems. Im pretty sure its probably more than you can handle. Id bring it somewhere and let them sort through it. I wouldnt even want to tackle that. Electrical shit sucks.

So it doesn't sound like the fuses or the battery to you? :-\

Electrical shit does suck. Pull each fuse one at a time and check them. The would be my first step. You may want to goto www.j-body.org and even v6z24.com

Anything you need to know what your car - they can help. Also, try searching for similar issues first, because like any car-related site, if you dont search first and ask a stupid question, you'll get flamed.

Sounds like his wire coatings wore through and are touching each other now. Usually its like the trunk wires, its a mess to fix, and if you aren't electrical savvy or mechanically inclined, forget it. Pay someone else for this headache.

You have a ground loose. That can make weird stuff happen.

Well guys I took it to the shop and they fixed it for $401.

It turned out to be a ground cable underneath my battery that melted to some other shit. Took them 2.5 hours to find the ground cable and another hour and a half to fix it. Bah.

They also did an inspection and told me my brakes need replaced. So I bought new pads and new roters and a buddy is going to help me put 'em on.

For $400 it was worth it. Hopefully they put some kind of shielding on the wires or moved them so it will not happen again.

Pads and rotors aren't bad to do.
