A bought a new copy of GTA IV today, installed it and now I'm stuck on the release date check screen which never completes. It gets to 30%, then hangs for a few minutes, then fails. I have manually activated the game with the serial and unlock code. But this stupid release date check still won't let me play!
What do I do?

I assume it's PC? Every website has told me you need the Offline Installer or some service pack.

Yes it is the PC version. I've been googling for a solution, but I only find various forum topics of the same complaint with no solution.
Could you point me towards this offline installer? If you are talking about the manual activation, I have already done that and have updated the game to 1.0.4.0.

I don't have GTA IV or anything, so I really don't know what the problem is, got a Firewall on?
I found the offline installer and it worked. Now I'm getting a. Apparently it's linked to the windows live setup, so I'm re-installing it now to see if it will resolve the issue.Quote:

Putting that idiot's comment aside, I re-installed GTA IV and it is now working fine.
