Ghosts of Zoints

Of the two breakaway forums I helped run a few years ago, one is still hanging in there. f15.com has gone the way of LWS, but www.theroadtowar.com is still up, with no legitimate new registrations for the past couple of years. I occasionally log back on to ban the spambots and now have everything set to where no one can do anything anyway (I think). After I disallowed new threads and replies I started getting PMs. Those damned spambots are sneaky. Don't ask me why I even bother, as the forums never got off the ground anyway, but I want to keep things clean until whenever the domain expires and the site goes down.

Anyway, who remembers some of the other communities that were established around January of 2006 as part of TGO's Zoints experiment? I just tried visiting a couple I remember and their status is below.

drugsandbooze: still up and running but looks like traffic is slow

fuckingnastyshit: "This account has been suspended. Please contact the billing/support department as soon as possible."

fuckingcoolshit: " Notice: This domain name expired on 01/13/2010 and is pending renewal or deletion"

mymetallunchbox: site went down a few years ago

f15: domain expired January 2008

talkmilitary: site down

Anyone have any sites to add?

I was a member of roadtowar. I didn't really post though.

I think fuckingcoolshit became something else and then something else again. I think it might be proving grounds now but then again that may be something else.

Actually, traffic's pretty decent. Or at least as decent as its ever been. The stats keep increasing.

/shrug.

We never blew up though, and certainly haven't become comparable to LWS in size.

I didnt own it, but I knew the guy who did back at uni, who owned unilife.ac.nz.
I havent checked it in years, but from what I recall, he found a list of everyone at my uni, spammed them all, the forum lasted a couple of weeks then crashed and burned.

I stopped posting there because everyone was kind of pretentious. And that means a lot coming from me.

I don't go there myself but I do get emails from them every so often so I guess its going well enough. On a slightly related note, did you ever finish that book/story of yours, Creep World i think it was called, that you started posting on LWS years ago. I rather enjoyed that, or at least what you had written up to that point.

The site didn't go down voluntarily though, someone changed the FTP info when Zoints was purchased and I could never get it again. Sucks it was making about $50.00 a month, would've been more now. Always wanted to get the staff some of that $$ like AnonyD, ColdFyre, and DSMTuner.

I've actually written 2 books since then - one about an amnesiac 20 something who wakes up in a dystopian city and tries to regain his identity (think a Bourne movie, but way more boring) that really sucked, and then my current novel, which is on the third draft. I haven't settled on a title yet, though. Also, I finished Creep World, but upon re-reading it, was somewhat ashamed. As I wrote it in 3 weeks, it was a sprint, not a marathon, though. I've been working on my latest book for around 2 years.
