HResult 80070424 is the
biggest fat fuck ever. *vent*
Has anyone else ever received this error? I'm getting it with windows update and it won't let me install any updates.. this is a huge problem. I had it 8 months ago, reformat my HP laptop, I was able to install updates for a couple months then again I had this problem. So I've gone 6 months without a microsoft update and it's making things worse because...
I can't install Visual C++ 2008 because of this error, it actually says something about HRESULT 80070424 in there
Because I can't install Visual C++ 2008, I can't get Avast 5.0 to work..... fucking POS I had 4.8 working just fine then I had to renew and I got 5.0... and Avast won't even let me get 4.8. Even if I download 4.8 from somewhere else it just keeps installing 5.0..........
And now I have no protection.. I guess I could go and install AVG. But wtf, I've tried countless solutions to this problem and none of them work, but they work like a charm for plenty others. I've googled it over and over, and I probably won't find the answer here. Sigh.. does anyone else feel my pain?
EDIT: Okay.. I can't even install the latest AVG because I can't install Visual C++, because I can't install windows update.. fuck you windows

Why the hell do you have to instal VS2008 to install AVG or Avast? I've never messed with AVG but I put Avast on my parents' computer when I went home for Christmas and they definitely don't have VS.
also I have never heard of that error ever so I guess your life just sux sorry bro
-
I have no effing idea.. it's only for the most updated versions of Avast and AVG. I've read countless forums and it all leads to that. It probably also has to do with the fact I can't use windows update.. oh well, yeah my life sucks =[. At least this problem isn't on my computer..

Why do you use Avast or AVG anyways? Jesus Christ they are more malicious than most viruses
-
Ohh??? I never figured since I've never had any problems thanks to it.. compared to all the shit viruses my mom gets with her norton 360 [lol]. so what would you recommend then?

NIS/Norton AV are superior products especially the 09 and 2010 versions. I know Norton used to be the bloatiest thing ever seen but it now has one of the lightest footprints and quickest interfaces. It also has higher detection rates than AVG

People are stuck in their ways and swear by AVG - Sure avg is good anti virus, but it is slow and bloaty and there is faster and better protection out there, even if it is paid.

I've tried just about everything in the world to fix this MrTroy.. it's no hope. I followed your link, did my steps, went to method 3 since my services.msc had Automatic Updates missing from its services.msc for Vista.
Then it links me to Windows Update agent, which, honestly, is so stupid, someone check the link out for me please, It's freaking retarded. All it does is tell you to press the start menu and click Windows Update... [no fking duh] And then I tried to download the Application "Windows Update Agent x64" that is linked in the link you gave me and it says Windows Update Agent Installer encountered an unrecoverable error. I don't know why but I haven't looked into that problem yet.
I need to go to work now but I'll keep checking this dead-end when I get back.

If you can't use Windows Update, it sounds like you have a spyware issue and/or shit is just getting corrupt.
Save yourself some time - backup and reformat.

Well it started like this.. Got the laptop in April, problem started in June, reformatted in August, got the problem again in October.
I doubt I'm doing anything to deserve this, as there are plenty others out there that keep having this problem.
