Trying to figure out what movie this is...

I watched the movie years ago. Probably close to ten years ago.
I remember that it was about this man, (I think he was older..60's/70's maybe) who somehow had an otter that sorta stuck around as a pet.
This man also fished for what I remember as Whale Sharks.
I also wanna say that it took place in Ireland, although that I'm only really about 30% sure on.

Anyone have any ideas?
