What sci-fi movie should I watch next?

I've been in a sci-fi movie mood lately. I compiled a list of movies from various "top sci-fi movies" lists. If a sci-fi movie isn't on this list, it's most likely because I've already seen it (or it's a terrible movie). Anyway, this list is so long, I'm not really sure what I should watch next. What do you recommend? I'm also open to suggestions that aren't on the list.

Yeah I watched some of Road Warrior in high school. I liked it fairly well.

I haven't watch any of Firefly but I heard that you don't have to watch the series to understand the movie. Is this true?

no, but you'll like the movie more. the series does a better job of setting up the characters from scratch than the movie (which itself does do a good job).

plus, the events of serenity happen after the events of firefly, so if you then go back and watch firefly afterwards you'll know in advance what it's all leading to.

I kinda hope to eventually watch Firefly (I think I have it downloaded somewhere). So do you recommend that I wait to see the movie after I watch Firefly?

Brazil. But make sure it's the one with the good ending. I think it's the director's cut.
A Scanner Darkly is amazing but, as it's not on the list, maybe you've seen it. If not, watch it.
And Serenity is one of my favourite sci-fi films but I can't imagine enjoying it half as much without seeing the series first.

I never watched it all the way through and I kinda forgot that it was even a sci-fi movie. I'll add it to the list.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind was good in it's day (read I'm old), not sure if I'd enjoy it now. I can't help do the bom bom bum bum bah every time I think of it though.
