difficulties concentrating

Lately I've been having a difficult time focusing in class. At first it was just my boring classes but now I'm finding it next to impossible to concentrate in any class for longer than 10 minutes at a time. I am fairly confident that I don't have a attention deficiency disorder because I can focus on other tasks with no problems. I get enough sleep and I exercise regularly.

I was thinking about taking some sort of supplement or vitamin to help. Does any one have any experience with anything like Focus Factor or Omega-3? Or really any other tips in general that's work for you?



Also, on a (perhaps) unrelated note, I've also had a bit of a loss of appetite lately. I still eat but I'm just not as hungry. At first I thought I was starting to have a depressive episode but my mood has been surprisingly normal.

maybe it's not the same for you, but for me it was a matter of just manning the fuck up. Every time I got distracted, I would force myself to sit down and get my shit done. Eventually it became easier. Being bored with the material doesn't make it any easier, so it becomes a judgment call on how much attention you're going to invest in it. You can get away with it, but sometimes it's just a matter of discipline.

On the other hand, do you consume a lot of caffeine or other stimulants? That's always going to make it difficult to focus on one thing.

yeah I started taking caffeine pills because I was extremely bored in my classes. So I went from falling asleep during class to being awake but distracted.

I think you guys are right. I just need to man up. And I mean, I just looked at my midterm grades. Apparently being distracted hasn't hampered me too much. I have straight A's. I'm starting to realize how shitty this college is.

caffeine and such can affect concentration negatively???

next time, just do massive rails all class and pick a fight with your teacher

although i have it on good authority that overloading on niacin will do wonders for you so that's probably the best thing to shoot for

Manning up is fine and all, but if there's something you can change in your life to make concentrating possible, then what you need to do is man up and change that part of your life, not pretend like you can will yourself into concentrating when your body just won't do it.

Are you sleeping enough? Did you know that lack of sleep is very highly correlated to lack of job satisfaction? I'm sure the same applies to coursework.

Is your diet okay?

If it matters to you this much, will getting into shape make a difference?

Be honest with yourself. It's easier for you to say now that that you're going to just make yourself concentrate than it is to commit to changing your lifestyle.

Maybe coq is right, but honestly behavioral problems in my life thus far have been attributable to problems with my habits rather than just to a lack of "manning up."

Well yeah... if you're hyperactive and jittery, you're not going to be able to sit still and concentrate...

Thanks for the serious reply.

Like I said earlier, I'm getting enough sleep and I work out regularly. My diet kind of sucks right now (eating at irregular times). I'm also smoking pot regularly (but not before class). I guess cutting out smoking and improving my diet could help.

Honestly, in my case the solution is probably a combination of manning up and improving my habits.

I tried reading this thread but I got distracted. I think I have difficulties concentrating too.

sycld i didn't mention sleeping and working out because she said she's already doing these things.

Although diet will have an impact on focus, and, personally, I find that smoking weed, even when I'm not high, doesn't help my concentration.

Still serious about the discipline though.

KT--I'm on the same page dear and though I'm sure I just need to man up, I've been avoiding doing so. Fuck focusfactor because it's super expensive. The number one ingredient is DMAE which is a lot cheaper and it seems to be doing the trick. It is a precursor to acetylcholine a widely used neurotransmitter in the brain.
