Apparently I'm the last person to ever hear about this, and it only came to my attention after the writer of this book series called out a LOST exec.

Anyone watching it?

Only heard of this from a huge fold out ad in The New Yorker and this thread, it looks some what interesting
I've been looking forward to this since they showed the teaser during True Blood's last season. I never read the books but I know what to expect. They released a 15 minute teaser a few weeks ago and it looks to be really good. I just hope it has a better opening than Boardwalk Empire had which seemed to drag on for the first 5 episodes.
Whats to expect?
yeah coq made a thread about the show a few month ago (a Game of Thrones - Casual Discourse).
I promised a friend I'd watch a few episodes, but as I said in the other thread, it doesn't look that interesting to me. (I'm not that into medieval time period stuff)
Yeah but.... fuck coq. Sorry, should have done a search.
Any initial reviews?
someone's bitter
haven't watched the teaser, personally. I'm going to wait until the show airs before I start watching it
I read about this yesterday in a review magasine.
Sounds like lotr with ultra violence and lots of sex and controversial topics (incestuous dwarven sex, kings proclaiming things like "All I wanted to do was crack skulls and fuck girls").
I think it sounds fucking epic, really. I'm hoping to watch some tonight.
the books did feature a shitload of sex
surprisingly, a fair amount was character developing
People keep calling it "Gladiator meets Sopranos" or shit like that. I've only just got through season 1 of The Sopranos so I won't be giving this a chance anytime soon.
mappo runt is so gay
I watched the first episode. It was pretty interesting. I want to know more about the White Walkers. I hope there's more action in the series.
that's gay
So yeah, just watched the second episode. This is a fuck lot more interesting than I thought it would be and I'm glad I'm watching this from the start.
Yeah, I'll be viewing it tonight.
On the whole, I'm very anti-fantasy (in the sense of dragons, wizards, elves) in literature but I can tolerate it on screen. If it can get into political espionage and real-world based concepts/problems then I will enjoy it. Like the plight of a minority underclass of species, etc.
Its really more of a drama in a fantasy setting.
Also the show was so good it made me purchase the books, which i got for free.
Never got around to viewing this, watched the new Doctor what's-his-name in Doctor Who. Not sold, loved Tennant. I couldn't find a Game of Thrones feed, anyone know of reliable streams? I'd rather not download a copy.
Why don't you want to dl it?
if you did, that would make you gay.
i don't know about anyone else but i kind of hate tits and nudity and loads of sex in my stories
it's just distracting because then i stop thinking about the story
I don't mind it at all.
gore i can take, because it's unpleasant and affecting. sex/tits/whatever -- just makes me not interested in the story anymore.
i mean, i'm not THAT susceptible to the urgent need to wank (any more than the common man) but i just like boobs so much that for that time my brain is not paying any attention to the story
theres a lot of tits and sex in the books though
i'm not saying it SHOULDN'T be there
i'm saying i don't like it because i like to be focused on my story
it's a bit like having my (hypothetical) girlfriend tell me a story while she is naked. does (hypothetical) she think i'm going to be listening to her story?
In this case, the tits and the sex are kind of an integral part of the story.
my favourite kind
well i suggest Ritalin or something if tits and sex make you forget whats going on in the story
I'd suggest watching a bunch of porn to desensitize yourself.
To those who've read the books:
I'm curious to how faithful is the tv show so far? I've read that the pacing is quicker. Coqauvin said the White Walkers are introduced at the beginning of the first book and then ignored until the end book. However just last episode some of the characters were discussing the White Walkers, so I mean...
I'm barely into the first book, about in the middle of the second episode for comparison. But im predicting the white walkers(which are called "the others" in the books) will become more prevalent once winter does indeed come. But thats just a prediction and since we were introduced to all the main characters(i think) so far, and it will be in jon snows perspective and his encounter with them. Since he just joined the black so I could see it happening by the end of the season
Gave the first episode an honest try, not my thing.
shame, what was it you didnt like about it?
I may have just been too tired, but there was just a lot of name dropping and titles and incest that I couldn't keep up with.
Best part by far was the exchange with the dwarf and bastard son though, and the whores, oh how I love the whores.
Yeah there are a lot of characters and initially it is a little overwhelming for someone completely new to the story.
Yeah I had to watch it a second time before i completely understood what was going on, it was a lot like The Wire in that sense.
jaime and tyrion have one of the most interesting relationships in the series
only to be rivalled by the glory that is baelish and tyrion
I was completely fucking confused with the first 3 episodes of the wire, but once you get to know the characters and what its about it becomes the best fucking show
Also I love Tyrion dude is awesome. Especially after bitch slapping that pussy ass prince
Tyrion is easily the number one character in the series, seconded only by Littlefinger. Later on, i root for Arya pretty hard too.
oh ya arya is going to be badass it seems.
watched the first 3 today.
I really like it, I'd like some sort of map though. just to know my way around. the one in the opening titles is a bit....sideways
The world is 1 goddamn continent?
I don't think so. Here's a world map that shows a separate continent: http://gameofthrones.net/images/West...eros-essos.jpg
there is also a southern continent. the first map doesnt show where the dothraki live across the narrow sea
There are other continents, yes, but 85% of the action takes place on Westeros, excluding only Daenarys' storyline.
I'm fucking ready for season 2 goddamnit
Man, this show is going to run into serious trouble if it makes it to Season 4/5
guess kt cant read
I don't have time to read a book. I rather just wait anyway.
NO TIME TO DEVOTE TO READING
10 HOURS TO DEVOTE TO WATCHING
you have time you just dont want to you lazy fuck
FINE, I'll fucking read the books jeez.
fake edit: WTF my local public library has only one copy of A Game of Thrones (checked out of course), but three copies of A Clash of Kings, and fucking seven copies of A Storm of Swords. Da fuck kind of logic is that?
libraries are often given books
oh hey, Game of Thrones is now being adapted into a comic book.
Whew, and to think I was about to open up a book without pictures.
lol
lol christ tyrion is ugly in the comic
you do jerk
sometimes, jerk chicken or beef is nice.
lol, perfect
btw, I'm reading A Game of Thrones right now (about half-way through) and it's really really good.
Alright so season two just started this week. I'm really excited because I'm about 3/4ths done with the second book and in A Clash of Kings a lot of really interesting developments happen with my two favorite characters (Arya and Jon). I can't wait to see certain scenes on the screen.
I like the scenes they added
I think I'm going to ditch the Sword of Truth series, because reading more of this guy's political views is going to drive me insane. I loved the beginning, but Goodkind's stuff after 2001 has more politically motivated writing(guess which side? not the reason I don't enjoy it, but I want to know about what a realistic, even with magic, universe's politics).
Will this series have an easily identified political leaning to it? Or will it be semi awe inspiring?
I watched the series as soon as I got out of jail, because a friend told me about it. I fell in love with it. The second season opener lost me a little, but after watching a second time I pieced together what I could.
How many seasons is this signed for right now?
Just started the first season, 4 episodes in, gonna hope to finish in a couple weeks so I can be caught up with season 2. Seems great so far.
Well that last scene with the shadow thing coming out of Melisandre was super wtf.
there was another episode today/tonight, KT. are you behind?
that scene was a lot more detailed than i thought theyd show
I try harder with this show, than any other, to see this on the day it first shows. And for the rest of the week I feel like a king.
Struggling to find the appeal to this show tbh. Just seems to be a bunch of british pansies slapping each other.
kt wanna give us a slowpoke update
well there's not much to say besides I think the show is really well done. I'm glad I read Clash of Kings before starting the season. The tv show obviously simplifies things, so I'm enjoying this season more than the first (I read Game of Thrones afterwards instead of before) because I know what the characters are thinking. For example, in the book Arya really struggles with what Jaqen H'ghar tells her about having to name 3 people but in the tv show she basically just spouts out a name.
I started watching this a few weeks ago, and Im hooked. I watched the first season and what they had of season 2 on HBO GO in like 2-3 days. Now I have a new Sunday routine. When I lay down, I put on the newest episode of Girls, and then watch the newest episode of Game of Thrones. Im VERY interested in finding out what happens to Daenerys Targaryen when she goes to the House of the Undying.
I'm hearing a bit of rumbling about last Sunday's episode. I've been waiting for the battle of the Blackwater since last season, and It didn't disappoint.
There were some bits that were understandably removed (The chain, the giant catapults, the naval battle was pretty much non-existant...) but It was still one of the best hours of TV this year. I mean, the battle takes up 5 chapters in the book and they had to squeeze that all into a 1-hour show. All-in-all, they did a remarkable job.
The acting by Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey was the best I've seen in the series and should get both of them Emmy nominations at the very least..
The season has deviated a bit more from the book than last season did, but I think that's because they've needed to cut quite a bit out. Overall though, George R R. Martin has done a remarkable job adapting his books into television scripts, and this episode not only stayed true to the story but was just as epic as the battle in the books.
So.......
Spoiler
seriously? not at all even in the slightest. he was killed at king's landing. how did he get up beyond the wall and turn into a white walker?
my guess is
Spoiler
That makes sense. I was told that by some guys at school, and he was wearing a crown or some shit.
And if they are a race, it might just be the king of the white walkers, and not someone we know.
Man I cant wait for season 3.
Read the books. Seriously.
