    Moon [2009]

    Summary from IMDB:
Astronaut Sam Bell has a quintessentially personal encounter toward the end of his three-year stint on the Moon, where he, working alongside his computer, GERTY, sends back to Earth parcels of a resource that has helped diminish our planet's power problems.

Directed by Duncan Jones (Source Code [2011]).

    Cast
A psychological thriller that I wished I could watch in theaters as opposed to my dinky 17" laptop. I would have absolutely enjoyed the immersion in this movie with surround sound and wide-screen theater, but I was definitely overall engrossed and could not stop watching. The movie has a message that questions ethics of science and plants the flag that we may not so be far off from this happening in our lifetimes. But aside from the seriousness of this movie, for me Moon brought up thocose wildly profound good feelings after I read 2001: A Space Oddysey and series. Just some fascinating sci-fi.

Note some interesting facts about actor Sam Rockwell and Director Duncan Jones.
Sam Rockwell played Justin Hammer of Hammer Industries rival to Tony Stark of Stark Industries in Iron Man 2, Zaphod Beeblebrox of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Wild Bill Wharton of The Green Mile, and Chuck Barris in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. He's got a real knack for playing some strange characters.

Duncan Jones is also David Bowie's son and also known as Zowie Bowie. It could be a far-fetched assumption that David's out-of-this world on-stage personas may have had some effect on his son.

Just a real good sci-fi movie that I hope other people should give the opportunity to watch.

Yeah I really enjoyed this movie too. Word of caution for those who haven't seen it, avoid all spoilers because the spoilers for this movie really do ruin it. Don't look at the wikipedia page or the imdb page. Fuck, don't look at anything about it. Just buy it, rent it, or download it.

I thought Kevin Spacey as GERTY was genius. It's been a few years since I've watched this film, but seeing this thread makes me want to watch it again. I think one of the major reasons why I enjoyed this movie is because it is considered "hard sci-fi" ("science fiction characterized by an emphasis on scientific or technical detail, or on scientific accuracy, or on both").

Yeah, I really loved that movie. So clever and subtle.

I remember seeing Sam Rockwell in a movie with a very young Mischa Barton. He played a white-trash gardener she befriend and everybody thinks he's a paedophile but he's not. I'd recommend it but I'm not going to go looking up the title.

Whoops! Totally forgot to mention a spoiler alert. Thanks.

Also, I read somewhere, and this was a pretty good statement, that the moon was the ultimate blend of science-fiction and science fact. It is a place beyond us that we have been too, but there is still so much more that is a mystery to us.

Yes. That is what I was talking about. I was thinking 'Straw Dogs' but I knew that couldn't be right because that's the rapey rapey film.
