This Thing is purely for the gorehounds, and they aren't likely to leave impressed. It takes a while for the blood and goo squibs to start gushing... When you've seen one mutilated corpse used like an extraterrestrial hand puppet you've seen 'em all.

The Thing is a 2011 science fiction horror film directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr., and written by Eric Heisserer. It is a prequel to the 1982 film of the same name by John Carpenter, the plot taking place immediately prior to the events of that film. It stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton who are part of a team of Norwegian and American scientists who discover an alien buried deep in the ice of Antarctica, realizing too late that it is still alive, consuming then imitating the team members.

    My review:
A lot of lovely gore and monsters. I got into the movie and enjoyed the thrills and scares. I feel a lot of reviewers have been unkind to the movie especially picking on CGI. I didn't find anything to be a problem. I wasn't really attached to any character, but the ending does lead me to wonder what ends up happening to Mary Winstead's character, Kate, at the very end. That does open up the possibility of another film, but I don't expect anyone to pick that up even though I have high hopes. Also, I've been out in the ocean and traveling the world to know what's going on in movies. I thought this was a remake, but the ending credits scene blew my mind.
