Photos Anyone know anything about Smith and Wessons 1911PD?

There is a guy on another forum who wants to trade his S&W 1911PD for my Glock 19. First off, Im pretty sure Im going to do it. The S&W retails for around $1000.

It includes the gun. 5 mags, 200 rounds of ammo, a Glock brand pistol light, a leather holster, and some extra grips.

Its not in perfect shape. Its got some wear on the rail, a small scratch on the front strap, and some discoloration on the rear of the slide.

    Rail wear:

    Front strap scratch:

    Discoloration:

The Glock Ill be trading for it is a Gen 3 Glock 19 in the OD green color (looks tan in person). It will include a TLR-3 light, two 15 round Glock mags, two 15 round KCI mags, a 33 round KCI mag, box, papers, and Ill be making a holster for him.

Im pretty sure Im gonna do it. But I wanted to get some opinions.

I'm just getting interested in handguns so I'm no expert, but the faults you posted with the S&W seem to be merely cosmetic and have little practical bearing on function. If it feels good in your hand I'd say go for it, sounds like its a smart deal from an economic perspective. My only concern from the rail wear is that unless he just changes stuff out often it may be an indication that a lot of rounds have been through the gun, that may be something to inquire about as that would affect the value and quality.

They guy Im trading with is a cop, and it was his duty gun before his agency issued Glocks. So it was carried alot, and not shot very often. He says its got around 500 rounds through it. My Glock probably has somewhere around 1500 rounds through it. I will probably get it refinished too. Basically Im trading him a $1000 gun for a $600 gun. My light and holster that hes getting are better than what Im getting, but the light was $80, and I can make a holster for it. Plus Im getting 200 rounds in the deal.

That sounds pretty good then if you trust him. From the rail wear and the fact that it was his duty gun that he would have obviously trained with a lot I'd be weary of the 500 round claim, especially since as a cop he would know what guns are worth and wouldn't knowingly take a $(400) swing in price.

That being said, again if it feels better in your hands and you are comfortable with it, that is really all that matters in the end.

edit: also weird that if it was his carry weapon and he has discoloration and rail wear but the white printing on the gun seems to be in perfect shape, you'd think that'd wear down too going in/out and rubbing in a holster a lot.

edit 2: re-read that this is a guy on another forum, unless you have dealt with him before and trust him I'd be extra extra careful. That gun looks well-used, and compared to your Glock is probably roughly equal in resale value; not worth the risk IMO, unless you know and trust him. The discoloration noted as well as the condition of the trigger would raise a red flag even for a noob like me because that just doesn't look right, it's like looking to buy a used car and finding rust above a runner.

Ive dealt with him a few times before actually. Everything went smoothly.

And youd be surprised with how little cops are required to train with their carry gun. I believe the white letters on it are actually recessed, so they arent on the surface to get worn.

And I mean, its a 1911. If any parts are not how I like them, I can easily change them.

What is this condition of the trigger you speak of?

From the pics it looks a little discolored, not sure if that is normal but I would imagine that should be uniform in color.

FINALLY got to shoot it. Its a sweet shooter too. This is an 18x18 steel target at 30 yards. I can tag it pretty good. We did some timed shots from the holster too. We used the Surefire Shot Timer iPhone app.. I was able to get a hit after the buzzer in 1.41 seconds including the draw.
