Default Hubble Telescope - amazing perspective.

Watch the whole thing, this really puts the sheer massiveness of the universe into perspective.

I absolutely love that video. Makes the world seem so small.

Always astonished by the scope of reality that exists outside on humble dirt ball.

Cool, I'm going to go kill myself.

Further, I enjoy a lot of space documentaries. Just recently watched a Nova program on Supermassives. A lot of really interesting stuff on that one.

Thread rated five stars. Now I must look for some hubble images to satisfy my love for such things.

Honestly that movie isn't that great.

I could probably splice together a movie in half an hour that does the job of putting the size of the universe into perspective better than that.

it's an interesting video, but i feel sad that it's not a subject that gets, in my opinion, enough representation in schools. we learn about the solar system in primary school, but then practically nothing until astrophysics at university level. the scope and majesty of space and the universe should be something every basically-educated student has been exposed to.

    yeah

    uh

that actually doesn't achieve anything in the way of making us think less of the video or making us think more of you, so you may want to back up your words with some actual substance there buster

Yea, but these are ACTUAL images from the Hubble telescope, not just generic vague "space illustrations" that have been used before, this is FACT.

Yea, that is pretty awesome. It is humbling...it fills me with such wonder. I mean 78 billion lightyears...am I right in thinking that a lightyear is the distance travelled by light in a year? Holy shit.

The dude in the video is right, the notion that ours is the only planet with life on it is just absurd, I cannot believe that, when videos like this put the universe and our planet into perspective, there has to be other planets with life.

Gwahir, I agree. This must be one of those things that I think most, if not all humans can be humbled by and share a common sense of sheer and utter awe and wonder, yet most don't appreciate. Stuff like this should be shown to kids to help them appreciate just how vast our universe is.

I just looked on wikipedia, stating that in meters, the universe is 880,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 meters in diameter. Just looking at a number that big makes my head hurt.

Yes, it is expanding. That forms, to the best of my knowledge one of the core parts of the big bang theory, as it is expanding, it stands to reason that moving back in time the universe shrinks. Or the galaxies are moving apart...I aint had much sleep and can't remember properly.
