Default Oh hey two rappers that play guitar (The Knux)

I know a lot of you guys dislike or even hate rap and rightly so since most mainstream rap consists of tough guys rapping about bitches and money.

The Knux however is more than just a rap duo. These guys actually play some of the instruments on the tracks. And it's not just that they can do more than rap, it's also their actual sound that is unconventional. Now I hate the rap-rock genre as much as the next guy but instead of sounding like Linkin Park, the Knux sounds more like TV on the Radio meets Lupe Fiasco.

    Here listen for yourself:

    (gay, no embedding)

I think Rhapsody.com (lol) sums up The Knux the best:

After listening to fraternal duo the Knux’s Remind Me in 3 Days…, the last place you'd guess Kintrell “Krispy Kream” Lindsey and Alvin “Rah Amillio” Lindsey are from is New Orleans East, part of the city’s rugged Ninth Ward neighborhood. Their self-produced debut, which was recorded in a mini-mansion in the Hollywood Hills, paints a hilarious portrait of young Hollywood, reflected in songs like “Daddy’s Little Girl,” an amusing ditty about rich, spoiled socialites, and the self-explanatory “Powder Room.” The Knux also play a bunch of instruments including the keys, horns, guitars, bass and drums. Along the way, they have managed to do what that whole rap-rock subgenre could never quite do: combine credible, spitfire lyrics with hard, rock-influenced beats.

They sound exactly like Outkast when they do stuff like this, except with less inspired musicality. Of course, this is only one song. They warrant further investigation on my part.

I can understand why you think that however I think The Knux is way more rock influenced than Outkast. (Or at least Outkast's earlier works)

You also have to realize that The Knux just released their debut album. I believe they have a lot of potential.

Not bad at all, and I generally don't like rap either.

I'm diggin' Cappuccino. It's got a nice 90's vibe to it.

i love the sound of their voices in bang bang.

i generally don't mind rap, and i am still on the fence with this band as a whole, but they have enough little things i like that enough listens will likeyl win me over

Hmm, they are actually pretty good. I prefer Bang Bang over Cappuccino or the two that i listened to though.

I recommend listening to the entire album. There are other songs on the cd that are better.

There's quite a lot of hip hop around that's made by talented artists. In Britain there's Jamie T, Lethal Bizzle, Plan B, M.I.A., Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip etc. America has Outkast. And erm... these guys maybe. I haven't listened to it yet.

    It's called underground/alternative hip hop..

Ex: Atmosphere, The Knux, Jedi Mind Tricks, Mos Def, Binary Star, Deltron 3030, El-P, Jurassic 5, Hieroglyphics, MF Doom, Aesop Rock, Santogold, A Tribe Called Quest, Talib Kweli..

just to name a few artists.

"Underground/alternative hip hop" is not a genre. The main thing those groups have in common is being under appreciated.

Go there and listen to "Imaginary Places." It's the only rap I like besides A Tribe Called Quest. And yes he is that fast live, even faster actually. I saw him back in July.

It's typically called Underground Hip Hop or Alternative Hip Hop.. they all have something in common.

This is more like what rap started out as, and should be. Not 50 Cent or Lil Wayne or any of the other shit thats out there.
