Default Ubuntu users. How do you... Which theme do you...

How do you get your applications menu to be translucent? I've searched but my googling skills aren't that good.

Which theme do you use? I'm currently using a carbon fiber looking theme.

    What did you conclude?

There is a transparency option in properties of desktop menus, but it seems pretty shit to be honest.

I installed the compizconfig-settings-manager which after install I could go to System > Preferences > Advanced Desktop Effects Settings. Click General Options and the Opacity Settings tab. Now click Window opacities and click New. Put this in "(Tooltip | Menu | PopupMenu | DropdownMenu) & class=" without quotes and about 90 or so for the value.

    Cool, that works pretty well.

I only enabled compiz last week (I'd largely ignored it since it was beryl) so a lot of these crazy settings are new to me.

It's disappointing you can't edit menus further though... I'd love to be able to right click on the desktop and have the entire 'applications' menu pop up. Then I could get rid of the one cluttering the top of my screen.

I kind of like it there. You can change it to the bottom but I guess that doesn't do what you want. I find it odd that people want all those application launchers to look like mac but the ones you can put in the panel work great for me and I don't have to go back to desktop to open one. Different strokes I guess.
