    Default Anti-virus software

Can anyone reccomend some free anti-virus software that is actually good? It doesn't need to have built in firewalls or crap like that, just anti-virus. I've only ever had experience with commercial products, and i'd love to get the names of some (good) free ones to start my research with.

AVG is my personal favorite. I've used it for 4 or 5 years and haven't had a problem.

I also use AVG and it does a great job. Haven't had a virus in a long time that it didn't catch

    Another vote here for AVG

You might be interested in trying out Panda antivirus, I'm sure there is a free version still out there but it's hard to find. I actually paid for a subscription for a year or so, then ended up preferring to go with the free AVG.

Although I vote for AVG too, I also suggest Avast! (Hey, it is Pirate Day). I use i with everything off except the standard and web shield, and it works great. AVG is nice, but frankly, I don't know how good they are anymore after they went semi-pay (I went to Avast after that and haven't went back... yet; they do have free still). So it's your call. AVG obviously got more response, but really, I think it is down to user comfort with each to define a choice.
