Default 13 year old kid gets 100% on the devil went down to georgia

This video is honestly out of hand just because you watch this kids fingers at the same time as the notes. It is seriously fukcing crazy, this song is absolutely ridiculous and has over 3000 notes in like7 minutes. For those who want to see the craziest parts, 5 minutes in is absolutely fucking out of hand and so is like a minute and a half and most of the rest of the song.

    Oh damn.

That kid is amazing, too bad he will most likely end up with carpal tunnel.

I figured the kid would be fat. He has to play this so goddamn much, it's impressive to the point that it's sad he plays a game this much.

I really don't see why people get all worked up when someone is good at Guitar Hero. GH is about as little like playing a real guitar as you can unless you get something made by Fisher Price. Sure it's always cool to watch when someone is good at any game, but being good at GH doesn't mean any musical talent.

I'm pretty sure everyone knows that GH=/=musical talent. If that kid spent as much time practicing the real guitar as he did learning the songs to press 5 buttons he'd probably be pretty good.

Well when I saw this I didn't watch it because I thought it would be an amazing display of musical talent, I thought it would be a 13 year old kid hitting over 3000 notes at mothafuckin light speed without missing one. I think it's dumb he spent all this time perfecting the song but it is still pretty fucking sweet.

Now if he could get his school work down like that I might be impressed. GH is fun to play but a total waste of time when taken to this level.

Devil went down to Georgia isn't really all that hard. It is logical that he could get it to 100% if he practiced.

EDIT: I take back what I said, I haven't played it in a while. It is harder than I remember. My best percentage is only 89%.

    Yeah, I'm not that impressed.
I can't do it for shit, but most of my housemates can get 95% on this song.
100% is impressive, but if you played the same song long enough you would eventually get it.

actually, i'm pretty sure that because of the nature of the game, you need considerable rhythmic talent and tonal descrimination to be very good at it. i mean it's not like playing an actual guitar but that doesn't mean it's completely separate from musical talent.

edit: in fact after watching the video i'm convinced -- you can't do that without musical talent. lots of it. i heard and saw his fingers speed up and slow down as he corrected himself and you just can't do that with flashing lights on the screen.

Exactly. For some reason people who hate on guitar hero seem to think that the people playing it consider it similar to a guitar. I have never in my life been interested in playing guitar and I'm still not. I play guitar hero because it is fun and for songs I really enjoy it lets me become even more familiar with them.

Well then with that logic DDR takes musical talent too. And so does dancing.

it still takes a good deal of talent and practice to do what this kid did. also, as goo-hair pointed out, you're incorrect in that some of the skills used in Guitar Hero can definitely be applied to actual musical performance, especially at the higher difficulty settings.

ddr takes no, strictly speaking, musical talent but a lot of rhythmic aptitude, quick reflexes and eye-body coordination.

and most dancing takes no musical talent, but to be a very good dancer you need a LOT of it. and by "very good" i don't mean "very good at dancing in clubs to techno music" i mean "very good in professional dance performance settings".

That's all Guitar Hero takes. Rhythmic aptitude, quick reflexes and hand-eye coordination. No musical talent goes into it. It's essentially DDR for the fingers.

No it's not. You need to know where you'll be moving your fingers based on tone. You need to be able to sense where the music is going in order to be actually, genuinely good at it. You can be decent at GH without any musical talent, but to be really, really good, you simply need musical talent. (By saying musical talent, I take into account rhythmic and tonal aptitude.) In DDR, the moves and arrows are essentially arbitrary -- not so in GH.

Playing an instrument is never like dancing.

Mmmm I dunno gwahir, I think maybe you're saying musical talent where that's a bit of an overstatement imo.

I have no musical talent, but I could imagine becoming really good at it if I put the time into it, like any other game.
I have rhythm and tonal aptitude (I'm not sure what that is lol but I am assuming telling tonal differences and relating it to hand movements etc) though.

I would look up what tonal aptitude is but frankly, its been a long day and I'm tired lol.

It's not a term or anything, it's just aptitude with tones. Basically, a good ear. That's musical talent. If you have a good ear, you have musical talent -- it's likely that what you lack is musical skill (i.e. the ability to ACTUALLY PLAY anything).

Ok. Yeah I have a good ear.

I wouldn't call that musical talent though, still feels like an overstatement (lol this over-analysing use of words is so pointless but funny), maybe musical aptitude. I wouldn't feel comfortable saying I have musical talent or skill so...

You know what else chicks dig? Fuckin' musicians man. Especially real musicians. Believe me, that's worked in my favour more than any relevant skill on guitar hero.

Don't get me wrong, I've met some chicks who take guitar hero talent way to seriously but they were never anything to write home about and usually the kind of girls I would avoid in the first place. But I'm not in the habit of trying to get a blowjob from a 15 year old with a playstation fetish.

Even so, the only girls I've met who really dig guitar hero don't tend to be older than 17. And if you can't drink or buy cigarettes then I, for one, am not interested.

Well to me, college girls means 16-18 (cuz I'm British) but all the uni girls I know (and that's a fair few) much prefer to go out, get wasted and sleep with a stranger than watch some moron play guitar hero, not really hear the song over the incessant tapping of the buttons and then give him sexual pleasure.

Maybe I just know cooler girls.

Yes it is. You move your fingers based on the tempo of the song, not on tone. There are 5 buttons to make up the whole fretboard of a guitar with 6 strings there is no way that 5 buttons can represent tone or actual notes on the guitar. You don't need a good ear, period. All you need is to play the songs a lot and to be able to know the tempo.

You calling GH musical talent is like me saying someone who knows how to use a computer is a computer engineer. You have to know how to use a computer to be an engineer so anyone who can use a computer is an engineer. That's basically how your whole argument looks.

Maybe Britain is like that, simonj, but here in good old America Guitar Hero makes all the uni ladies wet. It even got me laid once. My normal musical prowess has gotten me laid too, but with Guitar Hero I don't have to deal with as much set up and tear down.

Alright douchebag listen up. No one said that being good at guitar hero would make women sleep with you ok. Did you consider that a party could have guitar hero playing? All I am saying is that uni girls tend to like the game. not that they are salivating over some guy playing just that they like the game. It's kind of fun to watch. About the tapping of buttons are you talking about playing guitar hero in an isolated room with no other noise and the volume turned down? Also if all the girls you know go out, get wasted all the time and fuck strangers then they are fucking sluts. Feel free to take them, not many other people want them.

About the tapping of buttons are you talking about playing guitar hero in an isolated room with no other noise and the volume turned down? Also if all the girls you know go out, get wasted all the time and fuck strangers then they are fucking sluts. Feel free to take them, not many other people want them.
Ok, you're taking me too seriously. My main point is that being good at guitar hero does not make you cool. And no, I didn't consider that. I don't go to parties where Guitar Hero is a main attraction. In fact, if guitar hero is considered party 'entertainment' then it's a pretty lame party. Or it's not a party and it's just 6 or 7 people in a house playing video games. And as for being fun to watch, well it's not for me. It's on par with watching someone play Halo. Video Games are supposed to be active past-times, not passive.

You do need talent, but only if you count rhythm/hand-eye coordination as talents. In some ways they are, in other ways they're not. You don't need great musical talent for this game, just certain traits which will be found in good players will also be found in good musicians. Just because too things correlate does not mean they depend on each other.
