    Default Opinions on Vista

I have an interesting perspective on this as I hear people every day bring in their computers for repair and complain saying "that darn vista broke it". I personally don't see anything wrong with Vista anymore. Ever since SP1 and since developers actually caught up, I have no need to use XP instead of Vista anymore.

What are all of your opinions on Vista?

    Pre SP1:

Slow, sluggish, not very stable - in other words crap

    With SP1:

Virtually a different OS as it is now very stable, fast etc

I've got Vista Ultimate SP1 on my laptop (32bit) and on my PC (64bit) and overall, I'm happy with Vista.

I like it quite a lot. Seems to boot a lot quicker than XP.
The only problems I've had with it are getting some games to run, but there are some options in the compatibility tab, and they all work now.

    Very happy with it.

Even with SP1 my laptop runs like shit. Never ran good from the beginning and with all of the updates still runs awful. Can't wait til Windows 7. Hopefully it's not a let down.

Maybe it just can't run vista as well as you'd hoped?

Still pissed it won't run half the games I want... but then again I play games once in a blue moon.

Other than that I don't care.

If you can't run Vista very well I doubt Microsoft will lower the hardware requirements of Windows 7

Vista can be annoying at times (like randomly forgetting my folder size and view settings), but overall it's better than XP. I definitely would NOT go back. IMO, the people claiming Vista is horrible either haven't used it and are parroting fanboy blog posts, or they're just idiots.

Did you uninstall all the OEM bloatware? I've seen Vista laptops run like shit with all the bloatware and then run just fine once it's removed.

If your hardware is just slow or old, then I wouldn't hold my breath for 7 as it will be based off the Vista kernel and hardware reqs.

Do you by any chance like playing 10yr old games? The only games I've come across that didn't work were System Shock 2 or basically anything from that era.

I'm more looking forward to it for my desktop, not so much my laptop.

I removed a lot of the bloatware and disabled the UAC and Windows Sidebar. My laptop has 2gb of ram and a AMD X2 at 2ghz. So it's not a horrible laptop, but not great. With as much stuff I uninstalled and disabled on start up, it takes a long time for it to start up and be usable.

Take out the stuff you don't really need to start up from the startup folder.

I don't really mind. I have 2 computer with XP and 2 with Vista, and I just really don't feel a difference. There is a speed difference however but that could be because the computers I bought that have Vista come with a shitload of RAM. I have yet to try any games on Vista but to me, its all the same, mainly because i'm not utilizing any new things in Vista just because I don't need it.
