I would say the world will end when it no longer serves a neccessary function and the Sun is on the verge of death that the rest of humankind would make the exodus to inhabit other parts of the universe.

yes, some of them said they wanted the world to end soon, but some of them merely said that the world was going to end someday without saying anything else, which is not scary at all and is in fact in accordance with what we have deduced empirically.
but if you haven't seen religulous, i recommend that you do. it's a pretty funny and well-made movie.

My guess is that we're all going to kill each other. Eventually there's going to be a large scale nuclear war and the earth is going to be so destroyed that it's uninhabitable.
