This is really a great read that cuts through the crap that you hear at gunshops, and really helps you to understand the lubrication of a gun.

CLP is good for cleaning, but it's a pain in the ass, to be hoenst.

If you use too much it seeps out everywhere, but if you don't use too much it doesn't get cleaned very well.

I always just used Hoppes 9 gun oil in the orange bottle, bout 2/3rds the price of the rem oil and it seems to work just fine for me. granted i'm not pumping thousands of rounds thru it but I use it on shotgun and ak-47 with no problems. I suppose I need some type of grease for the guns too but I just always oiled everything.

I stay away from grease. It attracts too much dirt. For stuff that will be stored for a while, I use Mobile 1 Synthetic.

Hoppes doesn't provide any corrosion resistance, I think.

But yeah, I like that stuff, too.

I like the militec 1 grease.

    It smells bad, but works.

The artical pretty much confirms what Ed Harris wrote years ago when he came up with Ed's Red. Which I have been using exclusively since I first found the recipe on FIDO net back in the late 80s.

    Ed's Red
    Green is the new Red.

I'm just scared to mix all that stuff, hahahah.

I still have it saved from a couple years back when you first told me about it

I have about a gallon and a half of CLP still, also have some LSA which is a great lubricant for military weapons. Somewhere I think there are a few bottles of LAW also, for extreme cold operating conditions.
