    Default United States of Tara

(You can watch the unedited first episode on sho.com)

In United States of Tara, Tara (Toni Collette) is a wife and mother of teenage children. The family of four, though, is anything but ordinary. Aside from the fact that her quirky, good-hearted son (Keir Gilchrist) has a crush on a boy in his film class and her troubled daughter (Brie Larson) struggles to locate boundaries with men, Tara has her own issues - she isn't always herself. Tara has dissociative identity disorder, meaning that when things get out of hand or beyond the amount of stress she can handle, Tara simply cannot help but alter one of her personalities, a trait that makes this family of misfits all the more bizarre and unattached. John Corbett stars as Tara's hard-working and committed husband, and Rosemarie DeWitt stars as her lonely sister.
The first episode was pretty good, I can't wait to download it weekly along with Weeds and Penn & Teller: Bullshit.

Well that was a pretty unique show. I'll probably make an effort to watch it again.

From the commercials the show seems pretty gimmicky.

Toni Collette is the star of the musical I happen to be listening to a lot lately! She's good in that.

I want to see this show, but it doesn't seem to be available outside the US.

I've only seen the first episode so I can't really say for certain, but even if it may be gimmicky, the role is well acted and incredibly entertaining.

The "Buck" character was very well played.

When I heard the name of this show I thought it was another show about Tara Reid going around the USA getting wasted.

    Unfortunately its not

Okay, so, ten episodes in and I find it completely gripping. Toni Collette is absolutely brilliant as Tara (plus Buck, plus T, plus "Gimme", and plus Alice, who is apparently the boss of the alternate personalities), and equally brilliant is John Corbett as Max, her husband. This family is an amazing one and their story is a thrill to watch.

I don't find it gimmicky at all.
