Unhappy Any tips on how to quit a bad habit?

I have a habit of putting my hair in my mouth when I'm focused on something. (But it's not like I'm sucking on it or anything gross.) Jesus I'm doing it right now. Any tips on how to quit a subconscious habit?

    Try chewing gum.

The adage that going 30 days without doing a habit is true, at least for me. It will pretty much take sheer willpower and determination for you to stop. Pay attention to what you're doing. As soon as you start to do it, stop.

That, or you can shave your head.
I hear the voices inside my head. They counsel me. They understand. They talk to me.

Is your hair long enough to put up? Even if you hate it that way, just wear it up until you no longer have the urge to snack on it. You could try substituting habits too. Keep something with you to keep your hands or mouth occupied during times you'd normally be messing with your hair.

If you find it really difficult to stop doing this, consider seeing a physician. If you have even a mild form of Trichophagia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Psi2.svg" class="image"><img alt="Stub icon" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/6c/Psi2.svg/30px-Psi2.svg.png"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/6/6c/Psi2.svg/30px-Psi2.svg.png, you should get it under control (hair masses accumulated in the intestinal tract can cause serious health problems, including death).

Ok I'll try this. I think my parents used the same method to get my brother to stop sucking his thumb.

    Thank you everyone.

I would try using actual hair products. If you ever accidentally sprayed hair spray into or near your mouth, you know how vile it can taste. I would try like gel or mousse.

If you put cayenne pepper powder on the tips of your hair, there is always the small chance that it can flicker off and get in your eyes which would not be pleasant.

You do make a great point. Also, I don't want to buy cayenne peppers.

Not sure if it would stick to the hair (I doubt it would hurt your hair), but a common trick to help cure nail biting is coating the fingertips in alum power (available at any pharmacy on the regular store shelves).

It has a very bitter taste and will remind you that you're chewing on your hair and help you remember to stop.

You should get a bottle of lemon juice and carry it around with you. Everytime you do it squirt some in your mouth. You'll be fine after a week of this form rehab.
