Default Need to build a compy.

Here's the deal. One of my friends wants me to put together a system for him. Problem is, when I built my rig over a year ago, I stopped keeping up with computer hardware and whatnot so I have no clue what's going on in that area.
I'd like a few suggestions for a mobo, CPU, PSU, and video card for a mid level compy, price range ~$500 to $600, capable of playing WoW. I ought to be able to handle the rest. Thanks in advance.

What all do you have to work with? Is this a completely new build or are there going to be any recycled parts and are there any preferences in brands like Intel AMD NVidea or ATI?

Last time I checked, the people who linger around here will just make a debate about the brands anyway. So, whats the point?

Eh, I suppose a HDD can be salvaged from his old compy, but that's about it. No preference for brand, just best bang for the buck within that price range. I'd research this stuff myself, but I don't have the time nor do I foresee having the time until Winter break.

Go with AMD, it's faster for the price at STOCK speeds.

Intel if you plan on overclocking.

since this post is kind of old, im not going to go into detail on what you need to buy.. unless you post back.

Some degree of detail would be fantastic.

    GPU - NVIDIA 8800GT $110.99

    Intel mobo $89.99

    Intel Core 2 Duo 2.57ghz CPU $119.99

    Thermaltake 500W PSU $69.99

That should run WoW pretty easily I think. All for about $386 + shipping.

They may be faster in clock speed, but not in actual work per cycle. AMD isn't worth it currently unless you're on a very very strict budget.

This is true but at this level of computer use his friend probably wont notice anything going with one or the other. Either will get the job done and then some, its all a matter of opinion and preferance at this point.

Meh, I'm on Fall break now so I have time to read through pages of reviews to put together a suitable rig.

Have i mentioned that I hate you for insisting on using "compy" throughout this thread?

Should I page you and let you know that term is outdated?
