Anyone played the beta? It looks like it can be alot of fun, feels like Bioshock, but a horror version(if you thought Bioshock was a part horror then leave now). I am downloading it right now and in a few days I'm sure I'll be able to give an overview.

Funny that I just saw this up on Nvidia's selection of Power Packs, and now I see it on various torrent sites. I watched the trailer and gameplay vids of it, and it looks quite good for an overseas developer. I hope it delivers.

I ever-so-slightly torrented the Russian version when it came out. It's certainly interesting, but there are a few areas which are kinda tedious. Combat can be horrible at times. It starts out like a brutally bastardised version of condemned's combat, with some acceptable gunplay thrown in later. The problem is that the blows lack the visceral feel of condemned's hobo-beatings and feel looser and less impactful.

The "mental echo" thing can be pretty cool. Going back in time to fix some faggot's mistake so you can progress through the area is strangely rewarding. I guess it's just nice to see how the changes you make affect the situation. Making sure you don't freeze to death is also a nice feature. The linking of the health system to the warmth of the character works surprisingly well. There are times when you'll be so busy trying to hug a huge clunking piece of tepid machinery that you won't notice the arrival of a hostile frozen mariner.

The only real problem I had with it was the optimization. I have a physx compatable card and the framerate still drops substantially at times. I tentatively turned physx support off and it slowed down even more. Thankfully the settings don't seem to make much aesthetical difference and dropping everything to medium sped it up a lot. It's also far less buggy than most russian/eastern european games, so that made a nice change.

Somehow, there was something about the website that seemed to indicate this. I don't know what it was.
