    Default New sound sytem. =]

I finally received my tax refund back, and a pretty satisfying paycheck.

    Spending about $250 i got:

2x Memphis Audio 10" DualVoiceCoil 4 ohm subwoofers.
    Kenwood KAC-7204 amplifier.

    Specs on MA Subs:
    Fo(Hz) - 29.58
    QMS - 4.68
    QES - 0.33
    QTS - 0.31
    VAS (Liters) - 53.96
    REVC (Ohms) - 3.2
    SPL @ 1 watt / 1 meter (dB) - 88.03
    X-mas Linear pk-pk (mm) - 10
    LEVC at 1k Hz (mH) - 1.81

    RMS Power - 250w

I'll be honest, i have no idea what ALOT of that means. Aha.

Right now i have the two subs hooked up to the amp through a single bridged connection.
But i plan on purchasing some heavy guage wire (10g or so) and making a connection like this one.
    http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/ca/..._4-ohm_2ch.jpg

Reviews say that's the best to get the the most powerful and best "beat."

There is a problem though. =[
My amp gets really hot to the touch after playing music loud for a while.

    Any suggestions?
    What y'all think?

I LOVE it aha. I can listen to music and have really good quality, or i can let people hear me coming from a couple blocks.

How are you currently wiring your subs to your amp? I don't quite know what a bridged connection is, but I do know the crutchfield diagram is the wiring you would want to use, since it provides a 2 ohm load to your amp at the sub's rated 250watts.

What kind of box are they in?

Also, 10 gauge might be a tad bit overkill for speaker wire; I used 12 gauge for a 750 RMS sub. I hope you are running a decent gauge power wire (at least 4) and have the appropriate fuse.

They are in a sealed box. The dimensions are perfect for the subs.

Yeah, my power wire and all that are 4g. I'm not sure what gauge i'll get for my speakers. Probably 12 or 14 though. It'll be a bit cheaper aha.

So i've encountered a major problem with my system.

Last night while i was heading home, my system was working perfectly. I was listening to some rock with low bass for a little while, but then i started listening to some music with very heavy and frequency bass.
Well, after about 5 minutes. All of a sudden the bass just went out. I pulled over to see if anything was unhooked and nothing was loose or unhooked.
I turned my car back on and the KAC-7204 blue power light would not light up. The bass would still hit, but it was soft and sort of distorted.

I checked all of the fuses and nothing is blown. All wires are hooked up as they should be. But the bass is still not what it was before.

Any diagnosis or checks i could do?

I have a warranty on the amp. I know the subs are not blown.

(Whenever i play my music with lots of bass, the amp does have a tendency to get very hot; even with the two little fans in it. But now since the amp "won't turn on" , the fans don't turn on either.)

Wheres your amp grounded? If its on a painted surface, sand it down to bare metal. The heavy bass might have been enough to dislodge the ground from any bare metal it may have been touching.

If this is not the case, ignore me.

To be honest, i have no idea where my amp is grounded to.

When i bought the car, a system was already hooked up. I just replaced the subwoofers and amp recently.
Looks like i'm going to be busy tomorrow, if it isn't raining that is.

I'm thinking of taking it to Best Buy and paying them 60 bucks to hook it all up. That way, i'll go ahead and get this problem fixed and if a problem occurs again, i can take it to them and make 'em fix it.

In my case with grounding, my amp wouldn't turn on without proper grounding (I had like, 7V between my power and bad ground source).

Have you tried it again since you had the problem? Maybe it was overheating?

I had Memphis subs and enjoyed them.

    Good purchase.

    Yeah, it's not my ground.
I found the point of ground, and it's all fine.

I'm taking my car to a sound shop tomorrow morning.

So i decided to look everything over really well before i took it to the shop this morning.
Good thing i did, i saw that the fuse between the amp and battery had a little scorch mark on it. After looking really closely i saw there was actually a little crack in it, somethin i missed when i was just scanning the first time.

So my system is all fixed now.

Just have to put the subs in a series instead of bridge now.
    w00t.

I had an issue with my inline fuse blowing every time I turned the car on. So, I got a larger fuse. I think I was over powering the shitty one I got in one of the amp wiring kits.
