Techno-Noob Needs Help!

As the title suggests, my computer knowledge is average at best, So I am asking for help!

I am a WoW player, and I currently play it on a laptop. But I also edit hours upon hours of video footage. I have 100gb on my laptop, but I am reaching the near capacity of that now, and I need to free up some space. I have an Ext Hard drive. I only play WoW at home, but need the videos at work, so putting the videos on the hard drive is not an option.Is there an easy-ish way of putting WoW on the Ext hard drive without completely reinstalling it? I have tried the nooby ways of doing it, but none have worked! I am just too lazy to go through the install and patch process AGAIN!

Any Ideas?

I do not play WoW, but every program I have ever installed is set in that directory or location unless you re-install it. There are several things (like registry) entries that people aren't aware of and they can't just "move" a game to a different directory (unless it's one of those small and/or old games where the EXE just runs off the files in there with it).

I would venture as an educated guess that if you want the whole game to be on the external hard drive, you will have to install it there.

I was under the impression that it isn't a good idea to run games off an ext HD.

Well, some games could run off of an ext HD just fine, but WoW is a little iffy. It processes a lot of information and I dunno if the USB bandwidth will be enough to allow it.

There's not way WoW needs more than 10MB/s disk throughput.

It has more to do with the fact that WoW has to access the registry and leaves it prone to glitches on either end....at least as I understand it.

Yes, but only if trying to move an install or use it with another PC. There's absolutely no reason you can't play from an external drive provided you play from the same PC you installed it with.

Edit: Some programs may be hard coded to expect C:, but this is a limitation of hack developers rather than the OS.

Instead of redownloading all of the patches, there is a folder in the program file group for the game that has all of the patches saved to it. Save those to a DVD before you uninstall, then you just post those patches back in there, and it will just have to install them from your hard drive not redownload them.
