Default Corrosion in my cigarette lighter

Like the title says, I've got some (well, a lot) of surface rust on the connector in my cigarette lighter. So much so, that its preventing an electrical circuit with anything I plug into it. Anyone know of a good way of getting rid of this? A battery terminal brush wouldn't work so well, as its in the very back of the hole, not the sides. Any pointers would be great.

    Steel wool.

On a serious note, cant you just take a pencil eraser to the corrosion, or am I thinking of a different 'trick'?

Steel wool would work, if the cigarette lighter were made of steel. Dissimilar metal contact will only cause further corrosion (see: galvanic corrosion).

Its going to corrode regardless. Especially if it has electricity going through it.

I rub my shotgun down with #0000 Steel wool sometimes, and have never had a problem with rust.

And you dont need to clean it anyway, you would have to take it out to clean it, just get a new one, they are like less than $5.
