    I presumed it was a tool to check that a sight is level.

    Then again, I know sweet FA about guns.

    It's a front sight with a level to keep from canting the rifle.

    That Globe front sight is pretty much standard size, they can use a variety of inserts depending on your needs.

    I thought it was some kind of level for mounting a scope at first.

    The go on an open sight target rifle, generally with an Olympic rear sight.

    I have a set of Redfield International Match sights like those for my 52 but I've never shot with them. Im not a big fan of peep sights, but thats probably because the only time I would have used them I would have been shooting with the wrong eye. I really should try them out.
