Default What do you use to play your music?

Both on the computer and on an mp3 player.

On my PC I use rhythmbox. Some may say it isn't as feature-rich as amarok, which is true, but I really don't like amarok's interface and the way it organises tracks. I much prefer rhythmbox's itunes-derived layout... basically I like that it's as simple as itunes without all the bloatedness. Plus it integrates well with my mp3 player. On my laptop I do use itunes (the version before whatever the crazy current version is) for no other reason than I like the way it presents tracks. All other shite I've either disabled or I ignore.

My mp3 player is a creative zen 8gb. Not much space (i have a total of 50gb or so of music) but it's enough really for the travelling I do, plus my 4gb SD card is good for storing movies on for those long train/bus journeys. No problems whatsoever with it so far, plus it seems to work very well with both windows and linux, which is my main concern. And its battery life is pretty staggering... it outstrips all my old mp3 players by a mile.

I use either WMP or the Zune software on my computer, and my Zune on the go. I know I probably should have said something like Winamp or foobar, but frankly, WMP has what I need, and the Zune software isn't too shabby, much better than it's first iterations that I messed with. The idle timer kick-in is really neat, especially if it recognizes the band or singer you have playing. I have about 15GB of music now, and the rest is some movies I converted to play on my long trips on the train. Although not the best way to watch movies, it does kill time quite effectively.

    Winamp

You can use it with ipods too, which is nice since I think itunes is garbage.

I usually use Rhythmbox, it has some great features - particularly the simple "add to play queue" feature and it's not clogged up with crap features that aren't worth my time.
The only problem is the sound quality seems to have just gone really shit recently. It's only with RhythmBox that this happens and it sucks because I use headphones a lot and, when I'm not, I still have a great speaker system. There must be something wrong with the settings or something, but figuring it out seems like too much hassle.

I've started using Songbird a lot now. It's a bit too 'complex' for my liking but I do like the fact it automatically connects to MP3 blogs and you can download interesting stuff with a click. I've found some great music that way.

    iTunes and my iPhone.

I didn't start using iTunes until last year, mainly because I got tired of foobar after I got tired of Winamp which I used forever and it sort of worked out since OS X doesn't have any support from any media players.

A guitar or drums? Maybe even a trumpet but I doubt it because it's been a while.

Really though, I use a radio.......

I had that rhythmbox issue once, and it turned out that it was using some crazy 'fluendo' codec instead of the standard gstreamer one, which meant even at a moderate volume the quality was awful. Got it sorted out eventually though.

Yours might be something else entirely.

    Windows: Foobar2000
    Linux: Audacious
    Portable: 30GB Creative Zen Xtra

I was using Winamp, but it is resource heavy and seemed to get worse with every new version.

Yeah I use my record player as often as I can (only have a limited amount of vinyls in comparison to CDs and mp3s, but oh well) and it's pretty awesome.

We have a stereo system in our living room and garage that we hook our various players up to.

I use iTunes, my roommate uses both Winamp and Windows Media, and the other housemates use iTunes or windows media.

Rhythmbox on my computer and Zune for the road. I have to load my music on my sisters computer to be able to add it to my zune. It's a pain but whatever. I had a zen stone 2g but gave it to my son. With it I can load it from my computer.

I use Winamp on my regular computer, and Media Monkey on my server. Winamp is easier to just open up and get music playing, while Media Monkey is great for being able to manage a boatload of media without getting bogged down when it tries to search for a particular song.

I purchased a 160 GB Ipod three weeks ago, and I love it. So far, I've spent over 800 dollars in music.

Seems I'm the only one who uses Cowon jetAudio. I find it does everything I need it to do. And for a portable media player I just use my cheap phone and some card reader that's small enough to keep on my keyring. I used to use a Cowon iAudio M3L but I decided I don't like having my pockets full.

Mostly on my computer, but I have this radio/usb/lighter plug in, in my vehicle that I play the songs on. It seems easier than burning CD's because I can change the songs when I want to and change usbs when I want a different selection.

I've pretty much abandoned my iPod nano. I don't even know where it is now. I've started using the cd player in my car and I just burn new cds when I want to listen to something different.

As far as what I use on my computer, I mainly use iTunes. One of the major reasons I use iTunes is because for some reason it's the only media player besides Windows Media Player that is compatible with my keyboard song display function. And I'd rather kill myself than use WMP.

It's just extremely odd for a person to legitimately purchase that much music digitally. I'll purchase music on iTunes from time to time, but christ, never $800 worth. If I had that kind of money to spend, I'd buy the music on vinyl; then again, I am a rather materialistic person and need a physical representation to justify what I buy.

    People still pay for music?

Although back to the topic, I recently found my Mini Disc player. I've been rocking that out the last few days just for nostalgia's sake. Too bad I had a crappy taste in music back when I made all of the discs. I'm too lazy to install the software.

I use itunes on the computer. I know it is bloated, slow and there are better alternatives but all of my music is organized in there so that's not changing. I also don't listen to much music on my computer anymore, my desktop just sits in my room and I never go in there besides to sleep. Other than that i keep my ipod downstairs and we used to have it hooked up to my stereo, which unfortunately is no longer around. Now it can only be plugged into this weird ipod jukebox thing that has 0 bass, but get's pretty loud. It is good for parties where we need to keep it down a bit, no bass to shake the neighbors house.

Same here. I've been tempted by Songbird, one of the few music player alternative for OSX, but I've heard that it still has a few bugs to work out.

Windows Media Player for my computer (probably going to switch to iTunes soon.)

I have two Creative MuVo 128 MP3 players I use for running and the like. I have some music on my Blackberry for the car (more convenient than MP3 CDs, sometimes.) I'll be getting a free iPod with credit card rewards soon, and then I'll use a Touch for the car.

The only other time I listen to mobile music is while studying which I usually use my laptop for.

I use WMP on my computer, a cheap 4gig mp3 player that has terrible sound quality for when i go on long walks or to the gym and otherwise i just use my guitar and sing.
