    Default Customize a super-group.

Make a super-group that you think could go against the devil in a rock-off and win. Include what bands they're with, in case someone doesn't know them by their name. (Tenacious D inspired? Yes)

Make your band as big or small as you want.

Lead Vocals: Cedric Bixler-Zavala (The Mars Volta, At The Drive-In)
Lead Guitar: Claudio Sanchez (Coheed & Cambria)
Rhythm Guitar: David Gilmour (Pink Floyd)
Bass:Tim Commerford (Rage against the Machine)
    Drums: Brann Dailor (Mastodon)

Fidoll, I can't agree with the drummer for Mastodon. I like the rest of your band, but given the kind of slower sound you would get from Claudio and Gilmour, I think he's entirely the wrong choice. But I like your line up.

What about Mike Kinsella (American Football, Joan of Arc, Owen, Cap'n Jazz)?

I like it. The only problem with Dailor is how fucking intense he is compared to everyone else. It would be a super trippy band, anyway, though. I'd definitely listen to them.

Putting Gilmour on rhythm guitar is fucking retarded. He's a lead guitarist. If he isn't in your band to play lead, don't put him in your band. What a fucking waste.

edit: Unless you cleverly placed him there because you want him writing music. In which case, you ought to specify Gilmour circa 1970.

edit edit: 1970 and playing lead guitar, you idiot.

Gilmour played rhythm and lead guitar when under Pink Floyd.

I'm aware he played rhythm guitar. He's still a lead guitarist. My main point is it's a waste.

It's like in Coheed & Cambria.

Yes Travis plays rhythm guitar, but he still gets solos and often has better riffs than the lead.

I guess what really offended me about it was that you put Pink Floyd members into "supergroups" with the likes of Coheed & Cambria and whatever other emo music you listen to.

Dead guy from that band from the 70's
Guy from newer band that quit because he was too cool
Guy from 90's who's obviously done with music but can't see that himself

    Thread over.

And did Fidoll just compare the roles of guitarists in Coheed and Cambria to that of Pink Floyd?

Okay the whole "concept band" idea is I guess new and innovative and some of the music and story isn't horrible and whatnot but lets go ahead and recognize right now that without pioneers like The Beatles and Pink Floyd, the concept album is a meaningless term, much less the "concept band."

    Go read a graphic novel.

Well since coheed acknowledges these bands as their influences they never did claim to invent it.

And I wasn't comparing Pink Floyd and Coheed, I was saying that Coheed's rhythm guitarists isn't cornered to JUST rhythm guitar.

Nah, man, I can't see that ever working. I mean, it's an alright combination in theory, but you can tell you're a novice at this.

What about them is it you think is emo? The vocals? (which granted is the easiest [and lowest] way to attack)

And if you're going to play the *Insert song here* sounds emo card, I'll show you about 30 more that don't sound emo.

All I'm saying is that just because an emo band rips off Rush a lot doesn't mean they're not emo.

I'll call you when the time is right
Are you in or are you out?
    For them all to know

    Bye bye beautiful
    Don't bother to write
Disturbed by your words and they're calling all cars
    Face step, let down.
    Face step, step down.
And that's just from the odd songs I have on my computer.
    Sounds pretty emo to me.

Emo music is about doing harm to YOURSELF, not others.

Then there's the whole sci-fi story, and when have there ever been stories that didn't have emotion in them?

Ok, you've never read or heard any emo lyrics in your life ever.

    Fair enough. Nevermind.

Just because some of their songs deal with loving someone and the singer has a higher pitched voice does not make them an emo band. Their sound is COMPLETELY different than any other emo band out there, and their subject matter spans more than just harm to themselves, others, and love. By considering them emo, you'd have to consider Jack Johnson emo. Or Blondie emo. Your loose classification is very bizarre and doesn't seem very well thought out.

    It's all in the intent.
