Default Anyone listen to old school funk?

I've been looking for some good funk to listen to, just curious to see if anyone has any suggestions as far as the best bands or albums to get in to.

I'm just looking for a good place to start, I know it's a pretty broad topic

    Get the album

    Dudley Perkins - Expressions (2012)

    Produced entirely by Madlib.

    It's funky!

Play That Funky Music by Wild Cherry is a kick ass song.

Also virtually everything by James Brown. Throw in some pre-insanity/death Isaac Hayes in there too.

Parliment Funkadellic is good and I don't even like funk.

And Maceo Parker. His lyrics are weird as shit, but he's got some funky beats.

What kind of funk are you talking? Earth, Wind, and Fire funk, Tower of Power funk, Fusion funk, or Charlie Mingus funk?

You know, I'm not too sure. Honestly I heard a long live set on the radio the other day and it was just out of control. The fast paced intertwining melodies were just sounding so good at the time and I loved it, but unfortunately I have no idea who it was and can't remember any lyrics.

So maybe fusion funk? Not sure.
